Too bad the game is kinda garbage...2k10 was rough...2k9 was horrid...the 2k baseball games have a bad track record, I love baseball, but will not be getting this.
This is a lot different than Spore and Modern Warfare being pirated. Those were pirated out of protest, this was pirated out of greed. It worries me a little.
It's an MMO, who cares. Oh no, someone knows when I looted a new item, or when I completed an achievement. Seriously...It is an invasion of privacy to your avatar maybe, but to the actual person, no, no it isn't.
I got the email, it's fine, they can delete them, It will just decrease the chance I will play again to 0% instead of 20%. Though, I am pretty sure I was above 40 and still got the email.
Personally, I like progression over gear, I have said since day one, if it was possible, I would not bother with loot as long as I couple progress in the game.
I believe that you should put together a group of core people who have the same ideals as you do. Be it 10, 25 or 40, doesn't matter, find people who fit with you.
If care about progressing, and seeing content, and couldn't give a shit about loot, find people that aren't going to start drama over loot and if an item isn't the best fit for the guild on them, they will pass it over.
If you only care about gearing yourself up and flexing your e-peen, then join a guild full of people like that. Of course, that guild would be filled with loot drama, back stabbing and savages, but at the end of the day, that's what you asked for in the first place.
Loot is an interesting dynamic in games, there are really two schools of thought, as I somewhat noticed in the last two paragraphs, but to break it down further. Loot can be a means to an end, or the end. Collecting loot as your end-game isn't all that uncommon, and might be more common than the other, but I find it happens often in guilds that don't build a sense of comradery, or in players who are in the game with no RL friends. To them, they are playing for the mself and no one else. In other cases though, if you have a common goal with other people you are more likely to see loot as a means to an end, as opposed to the actual end of the game. As you collect more loot, you can viably do more content, eventually finding yourself in end-game.
Overall, loot is a pretty interesting subject, and everyone feels differently about how they handle loot. I just try to remember, just cause you have purples, doesn't make you a better person outside of the game at the end of the day. Sure, I will pick up loot as I go, but I would rather pass an item to a guild member if it gets me one step closer to killing Illidan, than keeping it for myself.
