The pain and suffering of MMO shutdowns

Oct 29th 2010 11:23AM (Massively)
I hear ya.

I loved Tabula Rasa, the bases you had to fight for or loose them to the mobs, the sci-fi theme, and expecially the Logos. The time it took to create an entire pictographic language must have been a labour of love.

I still use it to this day for writing 'secret' messages. hehe

Hi-Rez Studios announces development of Tribes Universe MMO

Oct 25th 2010 11:11AM (Massively)
I really hope they stick to what made Tribes fun.

I was hoping GA would be the next Tribes. It came sorta close but not close enough for me to stick with it.

Give me a jetpack, skiing and a disc launcher and I'm happy. :)

The Daily Grind: Would you play a weird MMO?

Oct 7th 2010 9:27AM (Massively)
I've played pretty much every MMO since Meridian 59 came out. I like shiny new games, whether they are weird or not.

However, that doesn't mean it will keep my attention. I'd say only 1 out of every 10 new MMO keeps my attention for more than a month or two, especially now with all the shiny-yet-shallow Korean-type games coming out. Most of the time I leave because the game sux0rs but other times it’s just because there is another new game coming out I want to try. There are just way too many MMOs out there for me to focus on one for very long unfortunately.

The Daily Grind: How important is your character's armor appearance?

Sep 30th 2010 9:40AM (Massively)
To me the apperance is very important.

Sometimes I would even take a piece of armour with lower stat bonuses if it would make my av look that much cooler. hehe

The look of my character is more important than the stat bonuses the armour provides.

The Daily Grind: How important are achievements to you?

Sep 29th 2010 11:20AM (Massively)
I find them completely useless if all you get is some silly title.

If, however, you get a new quest, a special item, stat bonus, or anything else you can actually use to improve your character, then yes, I love them.

The Daily Grind: What will MMOs be like 10 years from now?

I see brain-input devices like the one developed by Emotiv allowing us to play games that react to us on an emotional level as well as with faster reaction times.

Hyperspace Beacon: The Gray Jedi

Sep 22nd 2010 11:09AM (Massively)
In D&D terms I kinda see the Grey Jedi as similar to Chaotic Good characters:

"Chaotic Good is known as the "Beatific," "Rebel," or "Cynic" alignment. A Chaotic Good character favors change for a greater good, disdains bureaucratic organizations that get in the way of social improvement, and places a high value on personal freedom, not only for oneself, but for others as well. They always intend to do the right thing, but their methods are generally disorganised and often out of alignment with the rest of society.

While they do not have evil intentions, they may do bad things (even though they will not enjoy doing these things) to people who are, in their opinion, bad people, if it benefits the greater good.

Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica, Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly, and Robin Hood are examples of Chaotic Good individuals."

Hmm, I never really thought of it that way.

Instead of a Light side (no emotion) or Dark side (negative emotion) you also have a Happy side focusing on positive emotions.

"Luke, you do not yet realize your importance. You've only begun to discover your happiness! Join me, and I will complete your training! With our combined joyousness, we can end this destructive conflict, and bring love to the galaxy."

Captain's Log: Did Cryptic betray the spirit of Star Trek?

Sep 13th 2010 12:10PM (Massively)
You know, I never really could put my finger on why I find space combat annoying until now.

Its that you almost never fight just 1 on 1 ship battles (esp in the random missions in star clusters) but ALWAYS have to go through 3-5 waves of ships. This is probably why I hate space combat missions so much. If most were just 1 on 1 battles I could probably loterate them much more.

The Daily Grind: What content will you never do again?

The one thing I found pretty cool about TR was the Logos language.

I still like writting with it from time to time as a (geeky) secret language. hehe
