Amazing interview on a very interesting person. Based on this interview, I have a lot of respect for Aaron and his work on Conan. The questions asked were the exact questions I wanted to know the answers to. Good work to both the interviewer and Aaron!
Using black for black and white for white is arty and cute, but why are they posing in hostile ways toward each other in all the pictures? Also, why the slogan "white is comming" when you are using race as a metaphor? What does this mean?
It means the person behind this campaign didn't make a mistake. The imagery was chosen because it would cause controversy. The marketing dept at Sony knew that racial tensions all over the world are high and aimed to exploit it.
I see someone thinks the racial overtones are a mistake. Right... I don't think Sony hires idiots to run their marketing campaigns. They know what they are doing.
Huge corporations pay millions every for brain studies, culture studies, taste studies, and all sorts of demographic studies designed to extract the right reaction from the target audience. Never think for a moment that any reaction you have to a commercial is a "mistake."
Sony is being smart (and yes... evil too), they are marketing their product to young xenophobes in Holland. Interestingly enough, if there are enough of them then guess what? It will work.
