Teenager arrested for making suicide threat to Blizzard rep

Jan 3rd 2009 8:53AM (Massively)
As someone who had a friend who was saved from himself by an action taken by a company that runs an Online game. I can say that with all honesty, I value the actions taken by Blizzard. Even for those of you who think the kid was wrong for saying what he said, and believe me I understand why you may be unnerved, but to those who think he was crying wolf you can never really tell what one person from the next will do if given the stimuli to do an act of tragedy to themselves. The Human mind, as many know, is a great tool but for some the tool can become blunt over time and must be sharpened with outside influences. I was lucky to have what happened to my friend, happen, and I am sure he will see it that way some day in the future too, as well as this kid too, but Trust me on this, the kid is much better off in the hands of the authorities taking care of him, that will no doubt give him the care and medical assistance he needs. The important thing to remember here is that when games become a stimuli and a danger to those who play, and when it becomes just as strong as any drug, it becomes necessary to gain assistance from those in the community that have the ability to help mend those who are in need of separating themselves from their virtualselves.

It could be good for your little black book and your complexion. RTM could set a ton of people free from their time sink. :)

Turbine hiring for Microtransaction Manager

WoW does RMT but they do it with a Real Life Card game. They don't add any weapons or buff items in the sets of course. I am sure those who pull out LOTRO will live life better for not having to waste their time in an MMO they wouldn't enjoy because someone has the money to get something better then themselves. I mean after all why try to inject a way for a live experiment on social and economic values be placed in a game that is fantasy, Right, Right. You can go back to your D&D games if all else fails, or if that doesn't work, after all you know the Sun and friends are waiting for ya, you know, outside. Don't worry so much about RMT, in the long run you could get a nice tan and get back to the mall and spend money on real life buff items or clothing that makes your rump look smaller ladies or for you guys enlarge your weapon, if ya know what I mean :P. When you look at the possibilities, and believe me they are endless, go head, go outside, don't worry the radiation from the sun is much better for ya then the indoor pollution from your computer and dust partials that randomly fly about.

The Daily Grind: What MMOs are you looking forward to in 2009?

OK one little caveat to remeber John, is that Interplays last Fallout game was a really crappy one. Released January 2004 and was every bit as traumatic and tragic to me as the NGE that SOE placed on the sholders of SWG fans. Brotherhood of Steel ranks of with one of those games that every company with a great IP should look at before they make their next game just so they know how to not screw things up for themselves. Forgive me if I have little faith in Interplay, but we can only hope that Interplay doesn't come up with the 30 million in time to hold on to the MMO rights of Fallout, and I would like to add that we could be should be so lucky as to have Bethesda create the MMO that they should with this IP because in my view as a Fallout Vet I loved what Bethesda did regardless of what those fanatics over at No Mutants Allowed think.
