But but it was Bioware that told me their game WAS the "next big thing" - you know, an innovation in gaming history akin to the advent of talking motion pictures! Trust me, lots of us dislike TOR without ever believing - for a single second - that it was the "next big thing...."

The Secret World pre-order packages feature beta access, lifetime sub, and more

@xBludx

I have lifetime subs to LotRO, STO and CO, and I do not regret any of those purchases. Indeed, I am incredibly happy with them all (and I don't even play CO). The thing I like about lifetime subs is that I know I can play the game (with all the extra perks if it goes f2p) anytime I want without ever paying another dime. Since I tend to hop around mmos a fair amount, it just suits my playstyle. Plus, I do not have to be bothered with recurring credit card or PayPal payments, always a bonus.

Even CO - I do not play it, but I am sure I will get around to it someday and when I do, I will have all the vet rewards (if any), accumulated cash shop points, etc., and no worries about paying a sub.

Given my experience, plus a real interest in TSW, I will definitely be getting the lifetime sub.

The Daily Grind: Is maintenance mode better than nothing at all?

@avaloner

Unfortuately, SWG was a special case. I have no doubt that SOE would have kept SWG operating years after they made the decision to stop maintaining it (though, I note, they were still actively developing it at the time of its demise). What SOE could not control was the license from LucasArts, and there way no way LA was going to let another SW game "compete" with its shiny new baby SWTOR, no matter how extremely different the two games are.

Personally, I still maintain that LA was bone-headed in this decision. Most SWG players who had any inclination to try SWTOR (such as me) would have played both. Now, I play neither: SWG because I cannot; SWTOR because I will not. I doubt I am alone in this.

Linden Lab's Second Life 'extremely profitable,' company looking to expand

@BanMeAgain

/sigh

I responded to you but it posted in at the end of the thread. C'est la vie. But I think there is a lot more wrong with the world than someone who wishes for more creativity in life. :P

LOL - you have me exactly wrong. I would MUCH rather see sex in a movie than violence. I think Americans, at least (and I am one of them) tend to be on the prudish side.

Let me explain for you.

You have this incredible world, with all these incredible tools, and you can make ANYTHING YOU CAN IMAGINE. What do an inordinately large number of people choose to make? Animations of sex and orgy clubs.

That doesn't offend me. If they did, I can always avoid them. But with all those tools at their disposal, with the power of creation at their fingertips, THAT is what they choose to create. Go out and have real sex. Then come back and make something amazing.

Grats! I met my boyfriend in EQ2 the same way - he eventually moved cross country to be with me and we have now been together three years. :)

I dunno, I am in a guild of two in WoW at the moment, making it 50% female. ;) But in the early days, my WoW guild was probably 30-40% female, and that number is much higher in other MMOs I play, particularly EQ2, where I suspect females outnumber males.

My brand new level 5ish female night elf was frustrated in her attempt to turn in a quest one day when a Horde death knight killed all the NPC's in the starting area, then /laughed at me. I decided to respond nicely, so I /hugged him.

Horde DK vanishes and a minute later a level 1 male night elf /tells me "Do u want 2 b my girlfriend??? U hugged me!!!!"

True story. There are a lot of women who play WoW. We just don't always want you to KNOW we are female. :P
