I agree. I actually think the gaming community is becoming much more aware of the marketing and realzing that the PR departments of these MMO companies are hyping games up beyond what the developers are actually making.
We only know what they tell us, and if they tell us about cool features they don't implement we can't help but have our expectations not met. The fact that the gaming and MMO community is vocalizing that is a huge step in the right direction.
Averice, You really think one of WAR's major issues was having healers? I really don't think that was it. I would be SHOCKED if this 40K MMO has Space Marines and didn't have apothecaries
THQ is a good company, not the best but they have a solid track record. They have done extremely well with the Dawn of War franchise. We have been let down on to many MMOs lately so I'm not holding out alot of faith for this game. I will probably try it though.
When I still lived at home during College playing EQ I would do the following.
Ask both parents if they had anything they needed me to do. Asked them if they thought they would need me for anything in the next couple of hours. If they didn't I would tell them I'm going to play video games and if they need help please just give me a 10 minute notice. Worked out great.
Now that I have kids I only play after they go to bed.
They stopped annoucing launch dates because they never hit them. It was a joke for D2 and SC that we always knew the game would come out about 6-12 months after they first announced it.
Blizzard got tired of that rep and just decided to keep their mouths shut.
Wow... if Funcom has truly learned from their mistakes on AoC they have a very good chance with this game. I know it's super early in development but the basic game sounds neat... assuming they don't half @$$ it.
About the game. It has a Resident Evil feel to the cinema, which is totally cool. However if a world is swamped with friends/allies it takes away from some of the tense momments, which sort of seems to be the goal of Secret World... at least forom the cinema. I'm going to add it to my watch list though.
As for those hating on Funcom know this... they are under new management. Almost everyone has said that AoC is a good game now. I think they learned alot from AoC's launch and they fixed it with AoC. Now if they carry that onto another game I actually will trust Funcom more than I trust Mythic at this point.
I like how every person claims to want innovation yet most people still play WoW. There ARE games that have tried to innovate. Customers didn't like it. They are happy and safe inside the typical MMO, WAR, WoW, EQ styles.
The market, which is another term for the GAMERS, have not supported any new innovations in mass. Until they do the developers will not get the funding to do it.
WoW wasn't incredibiliy innovative over EQ. It took what worked and added onto it. The next Genre's are either cloning WoW or trying to completely avoid it's game design. The next big thing will take what WoW did right and add to it... or Blizzard will release their new IP which will probably sell 4 million copies on name brand alone.
They need to leave healing alone. They don't need to try and change it to draw in the DPS mindset people. That's what WAR did and they have horrible healing classes.

AoC was a fun game until it ran out of content.
