Great MMO (potential) there ever was and nothing (!) in the pipeline that seems to be able to replace it ... Sad day for sandbox players - though it hasn't been a (real, if such a thing exist) sandbox for years..
It was the game that really brought to MMOs and that I have the fondest memories of..
2 bad Lucas Arts chose to pull the plug. SOE should have a renewed licence and reboot it back to genuine sandbox, pre-NGE, new modern features but all the old stuff that made it great, expanded / updated.. It would have been a hit and would in no way compete with TOR which have nothing but the franchise in common, nothing! Business men and game companies are very shortsighted sometimes.. esp. when it comes to MMOs.
Here's a nice thought for old friends like Remamian Lightstalker and Klarnnrr... hope u r still save out there!
And for myself (many years ago): Draccan, bountyhunter, guildleader on Sunrunner, builder of a player city before such a feature existed officially, rebel and killer of many evil men of the Empire... R.I.P
Interesting that CoH is still one of the most solid mmos on the market. Pre-NGE SWG, CoH and vanilla WoW still ranks as the best mmos in my mind. EVE too. AoC is the only one that has been great since then (though on life support and shitty launch)
The market places is littered with mmo corpses since those early mmos. Let's review a list of failures (both released and not released): Star Trek NGE SWG Darkfall Earthrise Mortal Online Champions Online DC Universe Online Now Marvel Online (with todays announcement, what is there to be said?) Aion APB Tabula Rasa Black Prophecy FFXIV Gods and Heroes WAR Rift (controversial for some, but I wouldn't play it)
Even triple A companies can not follow through on creating great games... they think a simple game world with some cookie cutter combat and raids and the usual snooze is enough...
Sounds much more like how story should be implemented than for example SW:ToR. Where SW:ToR will put you on rails through stories even in Space, this approach seems (!) to be more sandboxy, open..
""We will not implement a death system that can be exploited as a fast travel system, because dying in The Secret World should be a sign of failure, and not optimization in any way. We don't want to punish the players in a form where they can lose stuff, neither items nor experience, but rather penalize on time," he explains."
I for one am disappointed about this! I prefer a hybrid solution with limited partial loot, decay on items, insurance, and something on experience akin to COH. Let me be clear, I don't believe in really harsh penalties, but rather some smaller effects that will affect you if you die many times over and over. But time is no penalty and would just make me bored! Too many mmos release without real penalties. I wouldn't have thought TSW would be one of them! *sigh*
Just losing time is annoying and IRL it is my most precious commodity and won't feel immersive at all!
Okay so we can conclude: Graphics and animations are subpar, the world look blander than expected, the editing is poor of the video and generally there is nothing in the video that is ground-breaking or new, in fact it looks like a dated game.
Let's hope the sandbox elements can make up for its many lackings...

Earthrise shows off shiny new web digs
Nov 24th 2010 8:47AM (Massively)Since the whole debacle about the last video we haven't seen any game footage since. I know they are revamping, but it has been like two years....
When will we actually see some ingame footage? All these written updates and screenshots tell us very little about the actual product.
