Task system adding 250 free quests to LotRO

Nov 15th 2010 4:51PM (Massively)
This system will help give an extra bit of XP through some of the more annoying level regions, especially the mid 30's. Too bad it stops currently at 50. With the change of deeds giving Turbine Points instead of XP, I'm finding the mid 50's to be a bit more work than normal. :)

The Road to Mordor: Will our journey take us back to The Hobbit?

Nov 13th 2010 8:14AM (Massively)
Well, another consideration is there is mention of Lonely Mountain, Lake Town, and the Elves of Mirkwood being attacked during the course of the the War in the appendices of LotR. Turbine has taken from this material for other areas already such as Forochel. No reason they couldn't send us to some of these other battles in iconic areas. There was alot more to the war than just where the fellowship went, we just never saw it directly/

NCsoft to probe Aion players' thoughts on rifting

Oct 11th 2010 11:08AM (Massively)
You do practically nothing about the pathetic rate of XP gain and loot drops for almost a year, but take away someone's ability to grief other players and your right on top of looking for solutions? Well played NCSoft.

The Daily Grind: How important are achievements to you?

Sep 29th 2010 6:27PM (Massively)
Love having these in an MMO. In LotRO and Guild Wars I really go after these on my main. Doesn't matter if it's just a deed for a title I'll never use or a virtue I absolutely need. Have to try and finish them.

My alts are a different story. There I'm pretty content to get the couple of titles I know I'll display, knock out the ones for the virtues I'll be equipping and leave the rest be. If some get others get done along the way, great! If not, no big deal. That may change a bit now with Turbine Points being awarded, but that depends on there being more in the store I want to buy.

What's funny is for how much I love them in MMO's, I really hate them in my console games. I don't care if joining an online match gets me 5 gamerscore on my XBL account.

The Road to Mordor: Rune-keepers under siege

May 28th 2010 2:04PM (Massively)
If you watch the animations closely, the effects originate from the rune stones where the rune-keeper is carving their words of power. I always thought that was a nice little touch to try and show that the effects are coming from the scribed (well, chiseled) runes rather than innately from the RK.

There are so many things that could be seen as lore-breaking in this game if you interpret things strictly enough. Too many elves, more than a handful of hobbits outside of the shire, effects for just about every class, etc. A game that strictly adhered to the lore probably wouldn't be much fun.

Turbine does a good job of staying within bounds and making an enjoyable experience.
