The Daily Grind: What's your favorite PvP memory?
May 11th 2011 8:30AM (Massively)I used to play a Dark Elf Shadowknight on Tallon Zek in Everquest. I was camping the Grimling Chieftan for one of his drops. It had nice resist stats and resists were important in PvP. Anyway, the Chieftan was flanked by two guards who had to be killed first. So, I'm sitting there and I notice a naked Erudite Wizard pop. This was obviously his spawn spot and was obvious he camped the Chieftan too. But I conned him and he was too low for me to attack, so I ignored him thinking he was going to get a rez or whatever. So, I'm killing the guards surrounding the Chieftan when he just falls over - dead. The Wizard nuked him. I was really pissed and then the wizard loots the Chieftan and starts taunting me. The fuuker actually said he had the item and there was nothing I could do about it.
Then I remembered I had four mobs beating on me and I could Feign Death. So I Feign Deathed right at his feet and the Grimlings started to beat that ass into the ground. He was dead in about 15 seconds. So, before the Grimlings pathed back to their spawns I went over to where the Wizard was about to spawn. Boy was he surprised to find more Grimlings waiting for him!
After that I let the Grimlings path back and let him spawn again. He never apologized, but I was satisfied with him losing XPz!

May 7th 2011 10:03PM (Massively)And no, you are wrong. Ge0Hotz had nothing to do with the network hack on PSN. Sony was apparently using outdated software with known flaws with no firewall.

May 6th 2011 10:01AM (Massively)Did you even read that? It has nothing to do with anything that GeoHotz did. What's interesting is that you copy and pasted that from a website and that probably violates that websites copyright. Did you have authorization to copy and paste that material? No? You're a hacker.

May 5th 2011 10:13PM (Massively)Why does he or anyone need authorization to tinker with his own property?
And again I ask. What was GeoHotz charged with?
Why isn't the FBI, ICE or DHS coming down on him?
Simply put - what he did wasn't a crime.
Stop copying and pasting and start using your brain.

May 4th 2011 2:07PM (Massively)Don't be an idiot. I never said it's okay to hack into a system for which you did not have the authority to, I said it's completely legal to do what you want with your own hardware. Period.
Having said that, can any of you 'hackers should go to jail' people explain why it's legal to jailbreak an iphone but not a PS3? Sony offered to settle with GeoHotz specifically because they didn't want this tested in court. If Apple lost that argument then it was obvious they would too. Once that happened the floodgates would open.
I am still waiting to see someone post what GeoHotz was charged with...

May 4th 2011 1:11PM (Massively)What law did he break? Hacking in and of itself isn't illegal. People hack things all the time. I can hack my car to go faster and I can hack my toaster to toast faster. I use hacked ROMS in my phones. None of which are illegal. I hacked the registry on my computer to enable certain functions. Am I breaking the law? What if I download a script that lets enables autoaim in Counter Strike? Is that illegal too?
You are severely misinformed. He broke ZERO laws. If he did break the law as you claim, why isn't he in jail? Where is the FBI in all of this? Private corporations and individuals DO NOT have the ability to say who goes to jail. No prosecutors went after GeoHotz. Do you know why? I'll tell you...they stayed out of it because as consumers and private citizens, we have the right to modify our personal property as we see fit. Period. No EULA can ever trump Constitutional rights. Piracy existed on the PS3 long before GeoHotz came into the scene.
Lastly, I'll leave you with this gem. If Sony was in the right...why did they settle? Again, they knew that if this made it to court they would lose. GeoHotz had a legal fund all set up so they knew they couldn't intimidate him.
Get your facts straight.

May 4th 2011 10:25AM (Massively)For starters, we don't know the nature of the breach. Was it pure negligence or was it a new exploit that was discovered? Did the breach happen on site or was it at a remote data center managed by someone else? Was it an inside job? Disgruntled employee?
I for one won't be joining any class action suits brought against Sony. Every bit of data they have on file is also on the web in some other form whether it's on Facebook, Yahoo, LinkedIn or Gmail. I took care of my responsibilities when I canceled the card I had on file with them, and they don't owe me anything except maybe some added subscription time and maybe a Triple XP weekend or something,
The most Sony owes anyone else is maybe a few years of credit report monitoring, or reimbursement for proven identity theft.
