The soul system is new ... and interesting. Kinda useless to explain it here, though, just check the official website - it's a decently complex system that promises quite a bit of freedom to players :-)
I just wish this game wasn't published by NCSoft, even if it's NCSoft West. After my horrible experiences with Lineage II and Aion I'm just full of utter distrust to that company ... and all the account security issues with Guild Wars don't exactly inspire my trust.
In short: I just fear getting burned by this company again.
I always had problems with the UI in LOTRO, it felt and looked "wooden" to me - serviceable but uninspiring. I'm very happy that this change is coming up ... looks like better times ;-)
- the controls are borked - the PS3 version is delayed half a year - the Fatigue system is telling people how they should play the game - there's guildleves every two days, and in between, all you can do is grind
The only real bug is the game itself. I wonder why they even wish to release this outside of Japan.
The LOTRO housing is aesthetic, but way too limited in it's options - hooks in different sizes that will allow you to place only specific items in them, two-room or three-room houses only (in different racial flavors, yes, but still a limited selection). Turbine said they will "work on housing in the future", whatever that means, but I think it can only be a good thing.
I have to agree that EQ2 has one of the best housing systems - the different houses in different neighbourhoods and cities, the vast selection of housing items that you can place however you like, that can be tilted, turned, resized and whatever ... and pets that live in your houses, the added functionality with storage & the broker, not to mention the sheer vastness of guild halls ... I really like that, and would hope that other games were as well designed in that regard.
It's a real shame that the new EQ2X - their so-called "free to play" - is so strongly restricted for those who don't subscribe (the "gold membership" is nothing but a subscription). Limited bagspace and no access to the broker will make crafting tedious (unless you join a guild, but that's still a workaround and makes stuff only slightly less difficult). So, no crafting your own furniture or making your own rugs for me :-(
Holy Moses, that game feels clunky. I just got into the beta and it's about responsive as a turd.
Unless you're specialized into console controls or absolutely love Square Enix games ... stay clear from this game. I really wonder how a renowned company can put out a game that is so consequently designed to baffle and annoy a vast part of it's potential customer base, i.e. PC gamers who love MMORPGs.

The Daily Grind: Best player housing?
