Great read, i've been waiting for a while for them to do an update to the crew skills system.
On The Swiftsure, at least since the slicer nerf, the market pretty much got stagnant, and unfortunately other professions suffered as a result.
I'd really like to see Bioware do a more in depth statistical analysis of what skills are being used, and then tweak them accordingly to ensure people want to use all those skills to keep the market going.
I cant tell you how many times I view the open market in multiple systems and just see huge gaping holes in the crafted material avaliable. It makes trying to create custom armor/weapons really difficult. In so much that I've had to create alts to supplement those trade items I cant find on the market.
Hopefully with this update the trend will start to change.
So Mittens (aka The Mittani) leader of one of the largest bully pulpit alliances, accused of bullying some guy in game?
I AM SO SHOCKED. No really, I am.
Mittens is a great player, runs a great alliance, with that said, I wouldn't want to be on the business end of his malice (his or his alliance)
It was an unfiltered discussion. Why is this news?
Real chances are is that the guy Mittens is referring to went on a QQ festival after he got ganked/scammed and starts throwing out the "My wife just left me" or "im going through a rough divorce" in some vain hope that Mittens would have a caring bone left in his body.
Thats what the people do who are to dumb to not get scammed, they cry foul and start listing excuses to prey on the sympathy(or nonexistant sympathy) hoping for a "Do-over"
I see no problem with anything said in his presentation.
@(Unverified) I agree with you whole-heartedly. Ever since TORs launch, the folks at massively (some, not all) have gone out of their way to showcase The Old Republic in a negative light. It's no secret joystick caters to the WoW crowd, but the increasing number of negative associations with TOR are simply unparalleled.
This article is another fine example of the "journalism" at massively. They know WoW is in decline (not because of TOR, but bad decisions made by acti/blizzard) and instead of letting go of their sacred cow, they bash one of the few contenders that WoW has.
It's funny because now, it happens so often it's hard to not notice the favoritism/nepotism.
My biggest issue with trying to come back and play STO is content, period.
I am still upset at the fact that you are required to level a SFO to 25 just to access klingnons.. its just a farce of a faction mechanic. So I spend the first 25 levels familarizing myself with fed space, just to swap and have to learn everything with a new faction all over again? Its poor design and poor implementation. Something Cryptic has been excelling at since champions.
2 years after the game launches, and they keep saying "We're working on fleshing out Klingnon pve contnet" yet, its never been done. Sure they added foundry, but all that is was a mashup of ideas and coding that Cryptic still had before it split with Paragon studios. They do have a lot of decent episodic content, but for a basically brand new game (being less than 5 years old) to go FTP 2 years in, well to me it shows how crappy of a product Cryptic delivered.
I didn't like how they handled champions, and was skeptical about STO, beta tested STO, and loved the space combat, but hated every other aspect about the game. IMHO Cryptic released 2 games prematurely, and instead of fixing the blatant flaws, just keep churning out repeatable content.
So.. CCP offers him a job, and he abandons ship before the game launches? This is why gamers and writers dont get offered jobs by large developement companies. There is always the fear they will flake out and leave.
Other than he use to writing for massively, I dont really think it needed to a be a story on the site.
And @Bendan, i'd rather go silently than vocally and visually flake out before the real job of being community manager even starts.
Maybe CCP will put someone more deserving in his place, someone who, oh I dunno, actually wants to see the job through?
@Lenn LU in theory isnt a crappy product. However, transcribed to a digital medium, it does become one.
There has been (for some time now) a free Minecraft-ish game called Block World(or some spelling) that basically is LU but all player created content on private servers. Its not immensly popular, but it has a nice niche. The problem was The Lego Group trying to pull a primarily young audience to the PC, and that failed. Once they realized this, the game went F2P, because like many other companies had seen a huge subscriber boost. However, free accounts doesnt always mean more money. Sadly, without a great product to make your players want to spend money, your shooting yourself in the foot.
I give Tribes: Ascend 6 months before Hi-Rez manages to nose dive it STRAIGHT into the ground.
Just like they did with Global Agenda.
I alpha'd & beta'd GA, loved what I saw, game releases, goes F2P and nosedives into the floor. They have great ideas, but dont really care about implementing them.

Nov 4th 2011 2:35PM (Massively)The F2P bubble has finally burst.
Its about time. Developers need to learn that a crappy product, once converted from P2P to F2P, is still a crap product.
Methinks the F2P MMO Graveyard is gonna be filling up soon.
