Vanguard celebrates with the Telon Faire

Well met folks. I am fresh back to this game after playing beta and post launch for a few months, then leaving. I'm so glad I decided to come back. I know the hate that is out there for this game, and I understand because I also felt it at one time. But VG feels more like a world that any other mmorpg to me, and a HUGE part of that is the incredible community here.

As an old time MUD player since the early 90's, I grew to love the communities that those types of games always seemed to draw. When i started playing MMORPG's with M59 and then UO and EQ/AC1/DAoC, etc... the communites were rock solid because they seemed to have been carried over from their target market, the MUDs.

Today, it's rare to find a gem in the rough sea of mmorpgs, at least as far as communities go. It no longer targets the demographic that the older games did, and for some that's better. For me, however, that is not what I am looking for. I love a great big, openly vast world and a tight, close knit community. Vanguard has this and so much more.

If you've played VG recently and just don't like it, or it's current course, that's totally understandable. But if you like the MUD's and MMORPG's of old, and are looking for that sort of tight knit community, and have either not played VG or not played it in a long time, you should check out the 14 day trial in my opinion.

Events like the one in this article are displays of community that I personally longed for, until I returned here. You don't see this kind of player devotion in most mmorpgs. At least I didn't.

Cheers to all!

I payed tabletop D&D starting in the early 80's and up through Forgotten Realms which remains my favorite campaigne to date. I played all of the old gold box D&D CRPG's and loved them. I have also played BG. BG2, PlaneScape Torment, IWD, NWN, etc...

I tried DDO once before for a very short time and have just returned with a promise to give Eberron a fair chance. I have a really hard time adjusting away from teh FR world, but I am seriously going to give it a shot this time. Whether I win game time or not, I can't wait to explore this new world and look forward to diving head first into the content additions that I know Turbine does better than anyone else out there (big AC1 junkie here :) ).
