Torchlight 2 distracts with pets trailer, screens

Apr 4th 2012 1:51PM (Joystiq)
I just don't understand Runic. They had the game playable at last year's PAX hinting it will be released Spring/Summer of 2011.

Had they released it at Christmas everyone and their grandmother would have bought it, especially after D3 was delayed again. Yet here we are one year later and it doesn't even have a release date??? Especially after Runic became famous after releasing Torchlight in just a mere 8 months of development.

My guess is they ran into such serious issues with multiplayer and the net code (that Torchlight didn't have) that they really could not release it.

I am sorry but I don't buy the "we just wanted to polish the game for it to be the best game ever" excuse. No small time developer would hold the release of a game for a whole year just to "polish" it. They are not Blizzard.

I just hope they solve the issues they have and release the game at some point this year... it seems interesting from the little I saw.

Diablo 3 collector's edition details emerge from the abyss [Update]

@HellFlyer

The only surprise here is they managed to squeeze the behind the scene story into 2 discs.

They should sell the movie rights to Paramount to make a trilogy.

BlizzCon skipping 2012 due to 'jam-packed schedule'

Jan 25th 2012 9:02AM (Massively)
Good news! People don't realize how much crap we are being fed because of this stupid convention:
1. No news or updates for months before BlizzCon so that they have something to talk about
2. Releasing information about not yet finalized game features against company policy in order to have something to reveal at BlizzCon (see Mystic Artisan, Nephalem Cube and Cauldron of Jordan in Diablo 3 and their removal this week)
3. Ignoring all other gaming conventions, keeping all news/reveals for BlizzCon (this will still be the case, even this year)

To me, BlizzCon represents everything wrong today with Blizzard as a developer. Their arrogant "we are too good for regular game conventions so we made our own" mentality will come back to bite in the ass one day.

The Daily Grind: Are you glad to see the end of the SWTOR pre-launch frenzy?

Dec 20th 2011 8:58AM (Massively)
@KaronT3 First of all, nobody "finished" the game yet. All they did is play 18 hours a day to be the first max level character on a server. They skipped the cut scenes, didn't bother with the story or stopped for once to get immersed in the world itself. So no, they didn't already "finish" it.

Remember that the reason SWTOR took so long to develop is because each of the 8 classes have different stories, each animated and voice acted by a professional actor. Writing the stories, editing the text and voice, making the animations for each cut scene takes a long time.

Obviously, if you take time to enjoy the game at a decent pace and don't mind redoing some of the quests to try different classes there is plenty of content to enjoy for the casual gamer.

However, if you play 10 hours a day and content will eventually run out, don't expect developers to be able to churn out content at a rate that will satisfy even the most casual of players.

The biggest issue with all non-sandbox MMOs is that creating high quality unique and interesting content takes hundreds of times longer than it takes an average player to enjoy it. This will never change unless developers start using auto-generated or player created content but then there is no guarantee for quality.

Besides, why worry about other people? Just play the game until your run out of content or are bored and play another one. There are many out there, some are free!

I would reinstall the game.

Massively Speaking Episode 176: Black and Blue Friday

Wow, have to say that Massively went from the "I have nothing else to listen while commuting" podcast to one of my top 5 podcasts.

Good job Justin and Larry. I even warmed up to Rubi who apparently was being dragged down by Shawn. She is much more interesting and opinionated. Nothing personal, I am sure Shawn is a nice person and good at many things, but podcasting is not one of them.

Keep up the good work guys and gals!

And remember, podcasting is entertainment :)

Need a beta key for Star Wars: The Old Republic? Silly question?

Nov 14th 2011 6:34PM (Massively)
Oh god. Why is everything so complicated with these people?

"as it may jeopardize your chances" - what does it even mean? So I would have received an invite anyway but now I registered a beta key so now I won't be able to play? Does anyone realize how convoluted this whole thing is?

I got a key from Massively so I naturally registered it. Then I noticed people started commenting that you should not register the key if you already signed up to the SWTOR beta before November 11 (which I and 99% of Massively readers did). Also I got no emails from Bioware so now I am back where I started - I might be able to play the beta at some point but maybe not.

Argh! I am just going to play Skyrim.

Vindictus European open beta begins tomorrow

A company that promotes a game in August 2010 only to go silent for almost an year does not deserve my money. I don't care if there were legal / development / localization / financial issues. It is always legal and free to post an update on the official facebook page and let your customers know what is going on. Out of respect if nothing else.

Good luck with the game but I for one am skipping this one on purpose.

EA proclaims SWTOR preorder breaks records

Jul 27th 2011 4:50AM (Massively)
hype & marketing = preorders
good game = subs

So the hype for the game is through the roof. We all know that. Will this be a good game? The jury is still out.

Gods & Heroes sells Centurion helmet on Amazon

Jun 27th 2011 4:41PM (Massively)
It's great having a contingency plan. Since they will most likely not have more than a handful subscribers, at least they can sell 200 overpriced helmets and get their investment in the game back.
