This sucks. I don't subscribe to Rift anymore but when I did, the original server I was on had the same treatment and we had to pick another one which was Galena. Now Galena is being essentially shut down and everyone I knew from the game will have to move? Lame-o.
I don't believe their story that these are all used because of the demand for trials. It's either a massive voluntary consolidation or they are are sectioning off a certain set for the F2P crowd and the existing servers will be for the ones that continue to pay.
Get a new computer or ISP. I've never seen any of the problems you're talking about and I've been in for over a week now. The lowest I've noticed an fps drop is down to about 29 from my usual 60+. I'm by no means saying the game is perfect but I have yet to see anyone complaining in game about technical problems that can't be solved because of changing graphics settings.
@KaronT3 Can you tell me how this situation is different from any other MMO? Pretty much the only difference is that SWTOR gave people a longer chance to play the game because of their pre-order. If someone wants to sprint to the finish they should be able to. I've been playing since the 13th and my two characters are only level 14's.
You're part of the problem by putting unrealistic expectations on a game... good, bad or otherwise.
