Website redeisgn are always fun: an opportunity to try and improve... incorporating the latest 'best practices' while still trying to remain unique, pushing your own brand. Also, an opportunity for everyone else to put on their critique glasses and pitch in.
I think your new design has some good points. It feels cleaner, simpler - which is a Good Thing, of course. It aligns you with joystiq - also a good thing from a commercial standpoint.
Personally, I find the ad at the top of the page quite annoying, and it takes away some critical space - I wish you could find an alternative positioning (might mean reducing the ad size)
For the rest, the content canvas is a bit on the thin side. Yes, we are looking at mobile and smaller screens, I understand that, but the way to do that is to provide a mobile version and a non-mobile version (rather than making the basic version semi-fit a smaller screen. I'm not measuring right now, but it feels like you're targeting a 960-grid (1024 wide screen)... but in that size you're fitting the right-hand side column with the feature posts and links... so your main content is constrained to the left. By the time you get down to the comments area, the content takes less than half of the available width, and there's nothing on the right hand side... I think you can find a way to use more space, or - I should say- use it better.
Anyways, those are my main two pain points atm - thanks for all the effort you guys put in Massively anyway!
Right now the MMO that pops the most in my head while not playing a game is The Secret World. When I was playing WOW, I used to run through the strats for all the boss fights in MC during my dentist appointments.
You know.. I'm thinking a totally new IP might be the only way for Blizzard to make a new MMO that is not a WoW clone. However, in the last 2 or 3 years it seems that the best MMOs come out of established IPs.
What would make most practical sense ? Probably the StarCraft MMO, but it'd be quite similar to WoW, with a different take on ranged weapons (a-la Tabula Rasa, but much more polished, since this is Blizzard).
