The Daily Grind: What MMO would you bring to the proverbial desert island?

Mar 31st 2012 3:04PM (Massively)
Star Wars Galaxies hands down.

Pre-CU most likely, although I'd take it how it was right before it shutdown as well There was just SO MUCH to get into. The jedi grind, crafting, business, pet taming, pet making, entertainer, interior decorating. No game could keep you as busy with as many varied things to do as SWG.

The Daily Grind: What originally got you into MMOs?

Mar 31st 2012 3:00PM (Massively)
A guy at work talked about SWG a lot when we were on smoke break. Eventually got me to try it and have been hooked on MMO's ever since. This was about a year before the CU.

The Daily Grind: Do social media tie-ins annoy you?

Mar 18th 2012 2:59PM (Massively)

It's very annoying. You want to see where it will end up in the gaming community? Go do some reading into how DICE handles things with Battlefield 3.

You want news? Go to twitter. Updates on the game? Go to Twitter.

It's absolute BS to design a whole website JUST for your game, then use a social media site (not connected to the game) to spread news and information about it and ignore the portal for a game which you created.

That is a current example of where the industry could be heading and I hope to god companies learn from DICE's unhappy customers about it.

The Daily Grind: Which non-existent MMO genre would you play?

Take Pre-CU SWG, Update the Engine and fix the issues and drop it into a Western. BOOM! Done!

Skill trees would work wonderfully for it. Gunfighter, trapping/rifleman/hunter, Army skills, non-combat artisan/barkeep/etc, it just works. Could take little pieces of this skill or that or go all out, freakin' perfect.

The world would work too. SWG had TONS of real estate and this game was what? 10 years old now? Plenty of room for player made towns/villages/huts/trading outposts in the wilderness. SOE, take what you made and hop on that!

The Daily Grind: Do you think MMO exit surveys are a waste of time?

Feb 18th 2012 5:50PM (Massively)
The part I hate is having to go through shenanigans every time I cancel my recurring subscription.

I always throw a month on, then cancel right away because I don't like automatic deductions. And every time I do it I have to fill out a freakin' survey.

Meet the guild that's lasted over 16 years

Crimson Alliance has been around since December 1997 starting in UO. Sure, there's only about 4-5 original members left, but we have the guild in TOR right now and many games in between. Not sure why this conglomerate is special.

The Older Gamers is a better large clan than these guys are if you really need a story. I'm not affiliated with them, but I have played with them and was welcomed with open arms and no B.S.

Choose My Adventure: The sequel!

Voted for Ryzom. I tried the game at one point for a very short time, but I think a lack of friends also willing to try it drew me away from it quickly.

Firefly MMO gets a possible second shot at the stars

Jan 5th 2012 12:48AM (Massively)
I love Firefly.

However, I cringe at the thought of just about any company trying to make it into an MMO. A setting like firefly demands space and ground content in a highly sandbox environment.

My last sentence pretty much tells you that it will never exist in the form the fans wish it to.

The Daily Grind: What's your favorite MMO pet class?

Jan 2nd 2012 8:22PM (Massively)
@Quarlo

Creature Handler was the best pet class I've ever played, hands down. The meta game of it and developing this connection to each pet you've tamed was just awesome.

I was quite upset when I came back to the game after they implemented Beast Handler into the game since it, essentially, took away all the fun parts of what CH was.

The Daily Grind: Is a tiered launch the way to go?

I think it turned out well. Other than queues on some servers, the server stability itself was outstanding. I got in 2 or 3 days after early access started and I never saw a server go down outside of schedules maintenance windows.

They might have gone down in primetime, I don't know. I play after midnight CST.
