I'm not too happy about them starting the free month without any warning. Isn't it pretty standard to start billing once we log into the client for the first time? I don't even have the client much less the time to play at the moment.
I'm also not thrilled with the automatic billing, but at least they let us know in the email.
Sorry, that was last patch. This is the patch that makes the game better. Patch after that is planned to be the great patch. Then later in the year we should see the awesome patch.
Afraid not. There are just too many other games out there that are already very good. Also, why even bother trying a game that would use my entire monthly internet quota just to patch?
I'm much happier paying for WAR and playing Ryzom and Runes of Magic for free. Ryzom is actually a far more "hardcore" game than AoC and it seems incredibly under-appreciated.
I'd even be much more likely to take EVE or Vanguard up on their free trials because at least they offer something relatively unique.
I tend to disagree with that assessment of TR. TR had great gameplay, but mediocre progression and dismal endgame. The TR devs lacked focus to build on the good things they had.
If Stargate Worlds wants to survive, it needs to take the best of Tabula Rasa's gameplay features and combine it with a free to play model and getting the Stargate lore in properly. The fanbase is there but I think a monthly fee will be a dealbreaker for many of them. Particularly with The Old Republic coming in guns blazing with a free to play model.
The best thing to do would be to license out the engine for other developers.
Startgate: Worlds, and other futuristic worlds, could be saved huge amounts of time/enegery by just starting with the TR engine.
There isn't anything wrong with the basic engine, it's just the content that's lacking. So make your money back on the engine and maybe even renting out the servers for other indie/startup MMO's to use.
Been quit WoW for well over a year now and I have no intention of ever going back. Boring lootwhore, rep-grindfest, with zero meaningful pvp is still a boring lootwhore rep-gindfest with zero meaningful pvp. Plus my old server has about 3 horde left and nothing will every be done to balance servers because more money can be made with paid transfers.
My guild finally moved on as well and a few of us are enjoying WAR. The one complaint we all have recently is that we don't have enough time to play it. There's almost too much to do if you have any other commitments outside of gaming :P

EA vs EA: Will Star Wars hurt Warhammer Online?
Nov 4th 2008 8:26PM (Massively)I love WAR but by the time they actually get around to finishing SWTOR, WAR will be several years old with an expansion or two under it's belt.
WAR will either be a big hit or a niche market. Either way this is a ways off so it has plenty of time to establish itself.
