Hyperspace Beacon: Managed crafting

Nov 16th 2010 8:24PM (Massively)
"That leads me to the next point. Everything is on timers. Crafting in a lot of games is all but instantaneous. "

You've never tried crafting in EVE have you? ;)

Captain's Log: Five features STO should "borrow" from other MMOs

Sep 16th 2010 6:09PM (Massively)
STO needs the large solar systems from EVE Online. The solar systems in STO are tiny little boxes which makes space feel very small.

When I leave Earth space dock, I'd like to warp over to Mars, Jupiter, or many other places in our solar system. Same with any other solar system in STO.

PAX 2010: Your questions answered by SWTOR's Blaine Christine

Sep 10th 2010 10:41PM (Massively)
"You remember that part where Han Solo and Chewbacca are in the Millennium Falcon? Han's like, 'Hey, Chewie, let's go into space, and let's just dick around.... "

Look Mr Erickson, you get off your arrogant high-horse and realize you can turn your snark on ground too. "Yeah, do you remember that part where Luke and C3P0 were on Tatooine? Luke's like, 'Hey, C3P0, let's go outside, and let's just dick around..." It didn't happen, because they were scripted movies, not a game.

Hyperspace Beacon: Proper PAX preparation prevents poor PAX performance

+1 to more information on Space Combat. I realize at launch it's a single-player only optional "mini-game". They hinted at multiplayer PVE & PVP space combat, post launch, more details here would be nice.

EVE Evolved: Dissent in the EVE community

ScottishViking, "...when they say 'Lag is a top priority,' and then you look at the numbers, and they say *exactly the opposite* of that statement..."

Throwing more people at the lag problem isn't going to get it fixed faster, in fact, it will slow it down. I work in IT so I knew that already, but even CCP has made that comment more than once in the last week or so. So saying, they have X-more people working on Incarna than Lag does not equate to how "important" the issue is.

I too am frustrated that the lag monster is still around and I too would like to know what Incarna is going to bring to EVE. So far there has been little official information from CCP and nothing really substantial for more than a year.

This leaves some players to make assumptions, many of which are probably wrong, but without anything from CCP it snowballs.

As the article stated, COMMUNICATION is the problem:

- CCP needs to do "lag monster updates" more often on the state of the issue. Sure these maybe hugely technical, but some people will understand it and translate for us laymen.

-CCP should have defined what "stakeholder" status means for the CSM. This could have been fixed long ago before the summit, yet CCP never corrected the assumptions on the forums nor apparently defined it to the CSM either.

-CCP needs to give us more information, and more often, on in Incara. How can we players get excited about a feature we know next-to-nothing about. With so many devs on it, you can't tell me they don't have more info than what we got at fanfest 08. Again, lack of information, leaves the players to make assumptions which feed other assumptions and snowball into a bigger PR issue.

EVE Evolved: Dissent in the EVE community

Druid UK, "Incarna has almost nothing really to do with EVE. We, the eve playerbase, are being used as "paying" beta testers for the software, gfx, char generations and more, for their new WOD game."

Assume much? Unless you can show me a quote from CCP that proves your statement it's nothing but wild assumptions.

As someone else said, EVE's code is getting old. It could be that Incarna is going to end up as a total rewrite of EVE's codebase. Just becuase it's being sold as adding "Walking in Stations" doesn't mean it won't/can't replace the code for in-space activity too. Maybe that's why the name changed as well.

BioWare Mythic says "Never!" to Real ID

Jul 26th 2010 3:35PM (Massively)
(grrr...) Copy/Paste fail... The following is from the G4 link above:

"...Muzyka, whose studio [Bioware] is currently developing 'Star Wars: The Old Republic' MMO in collaboration with both Electronic Arts and LucasArts, will become the division's group creative officer..."

Where are you getting SOE is tied into SW:TOR production?

BioWare Mythic says "Never!" to Real ID

Tempus, a simple Google search proves you wrong.

"... Now, EA has taken one more step toward folding the two studios together, confirming for GameSpot today that Mythic Entertainment has been renamed BioWare Mythic..." http://www.gamespot.com/news/6268054.html

Captain's Log: Should Star Trek Online fans fear the competition?

Jun 17th 2010 12:41PM (Massively)
"...First of all, many fans of STO won't be interested in a Star Wars game, for obvious reasons... "

I agree with the overall point, that STO will live-or-die by the hands of Cryptic.

I disagree with your assumption above. I, and probably many Star Trek "gamer" fans, are also fans of Star Wars (and other SciFi genera) and not locked into just one SciFi franchise. I know many Star Trek fans that have no desire to play STO - because they aren't gamers.

I plan to check out Black Prophecy when it ships.

I still play EVE

I plan to check out SW:TOR

I may purchase Starcraft II when it ships. I recently round I'm terribly rusty at RTS' games right now.

Tyrannis launch oversight destroys starbase market

@Tom316

"...Or even just change the requirements on the planet modules and such and make the current materials useless that way..."

That's an idea that would be funny to watch from the side lines. Just change the name of the item a little and all those that are stockpiling the mats will be left with junk. LOLs.
