Philip Rosedale: "Try to work with us. Let go a bit"

Aug 18th 2009 12:22AM (Massively)
You know, Phil, we'd find it an awful lot easier to "let go a bit" if, so many times in the past, "Try to work with us" hadn't been a code word for "Bend Over, Here It Comes Again."

IRS saves on recruitment costs with Second Life?

Hmm...I can think of far worse things for the Infernal Revenue Service to spend their^H^H^H^H^Hour tax money on...

I found paradise in my Second Life

Jul 25th 2009 4:09AM (Massively)
The song rocked pretty hard, I'll give it a throwing of the goat: \m/

Somehow I might have liked the video better if it had some actual footage from the Grid though.

I need to find this song; I want to feature it on my radio show next week.

Is Congress the smoking gun behind Second Life's turnaround on adult content?

May 9th 2009 12:43PM (Massively)
I think Twitter's own "SecondLie" has it right...Congress isn't the smoking gun; it's the knife at LL's throat.

And both this reason and the one Markus cites (business concerns) are ones I've pointed out as reasons behind LL's "ghettoization" of "adult" content...and why I believe LL doesn't intend to stop there. What they'd REALLY like to see is all of this "adult" content GONE...kind of the "hoof and mouth disease remedy" to suit both nosyparker governments and skittish corporate clients.

And, if we know the FTC report is due in December...now we have a timeframe for LL to begin Phase Two.

I offer one dark warning to LL as their plans for grid sanitization unfold..."For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" (Matthew 16:26)

Rosedale sparks speculations

People forget that the purpose of the Teen Grid was not only to keep teenage users from accessing "adult" content. It was also to keep adult predators from accessing teenage users. Hence the extensive background checks required of adults wishing to go onto the TG.

If the two Grids are merged, this protection goes away. Does LL no longer consider this important? I can imagine the field day the press will have when there's an assault on a teenager as a result of that teenager having met an adult predator in SL. LL doesn't need that kind of bad press, any more than they did when they set up the TG in the first place.

IRS reports to Congress: Virtual worlds/MMOGs have always been taxable

Jan 13th 2009 12:06PM (Massively)
I'm not concerned...I've poured so much money into the SL economy over the past 2 years that any little bits of money I *did* earn (selling music changers, DJ tips, etc.) are basically "lost in the noise." Of course, I don't have "receipts" to prove any of this...

Kotaku outlines differences between PlayStation Home and Second Life

Jan 3rd 2009 6:32PM (Massively)
And with that, you have hit the nail on the head. The installed base of PS3s is FAR less than that of PCs (and Macs) capable of running the SL client...so, by definition, PSHome cannot grow more popular than SL. (Of course, not all people capable of running SL do so...but I'm guessing that not everyone with a PS3 will be interested in using PSHome either.)

CCP Games aims to extend EVE Online to iPhone and mobile phones

Jan 2nd 2009 11:36AM (Massively)
As I understand it, it does some of what EVEmon does, only it does it on an iPhone and looks really cool in the process.

Economic crisis may force CCP Games to leave Iceland

Dec 23rd 2008 2:13AM (Massively)
If CCP had to leave Iceland, where would they go? Selenalore suggests London (probably based on the fact that Tranquility is hosted there), but I think they'd be more likely to consolidate with the CCP North America/White Wolf headquarters in Stone Mountain, GA, USA. Big change from Reykjavik...

An update on the EVE Online starbase exploit

Well, ScytheNoire, Mr Rodgers, all I can say is: "Come...join us...don't be afraid..."
