Updated: On the first day of giveaways, Turbine gave to me...

LOTRO, because of how big a fan I am of the IP from the books and the movies. It is cool to be constantly coming across things I remember from the books.

The Road to Mordor: Rise of Isengard is coming!

Nov 19th 2010 7:46PM (Massively)
It is very disappointing that Turbine seems more interested in wringing the most money out of the IP than putting out regular content updates. Two years between expansions is crap, and it is not even Rohan. I am sure all the F2P players are very happy with the pace of content releases, but those of us who have been paying subscriptions since the game came out have ample reason to be disappointed. It does seem that Turbine cares more about the F2P model and those players than the VIPs who helped keep the game alive for three years.

The Daily Grind: If you designed a quest, what would it be like?

Oct 1st 2010 2:46PM (Massively)
I think good quests should be soloable, but should also acknowledge that you are playing an MMO. I would like to see a quest where you have to give a certain number of something to other players, maybe newb players.

Quest Giving NPC would ask you to craft number of a particular item and then you would be required to give these to other players (not on your account). The item that you are required to give away would be a crit of a fairly low level item (ideal for giving to new low level characters), and the reward would be a number of items to help you craft higher level crit items. To make this more interesting, you could be required to give away the crafted items in several different places (way one item in each starter zone), with a sufficiently higher reward if this is done.

Another good idea for a quest would be an NPC would send you to investigate some local trouble maker and make him stop causing trouble. This local troublemaker would be of sufficiently high level that you could not take him down solo, but killing him would not be the only way to make him stop. You would be given several other options (paying him off in gold or crafted items, or perhaps killing 40 "rats" and bringing him the resulting trash). It might be interesting if the troublemaker offered you a higher reward than the quest giving NPC for you to go kill that NPC. Quest with more than one way to complete them are sorely missing from most games today.

Friday Livestream: Player's Choice edition [Updated]

Unwatchable, feed keeps stopping. I will wait until its finished and try to view it then. You should get someone with a level 65 so you can stream play in the new area.

EVE Evolved: Dissent in the EVE community

Aug 2nd 2010 10:10PM (Massively)
I guess my concern mirrors that of a lot of EVE's fanbase, they would rather make the game more universally appealing with things like Incarna and Dust than polish up and fix released features. This concerns us because with the release of Incarna, they could very well "break" the game. I could easily see stations becoming an overwhelming focus for many players and the result would be less ships in space (kinda defeats the purpose of a PVP focused game like EVE).

They also seem to put too much effort into things that don't matter to many subscribers (soundtrack additions/upgrades, more Eve Chronicles than Dev Blogs lately, lots of NPC news articles that don't affect gameplay in any way).

If any Eve Devs read this, PLEASE devote at least half of your devs to fixing existing systems and problems, while allowing the other half to work on the 3D chatroom feature (which has been one of the most annoying vaporware features/expansions for a modern MMO that I can think of)

The Game Archaeologist and the Ultima Prize: Richard Garriott

May 18th 2010 2:08PM (Massively)
It is great to hear from THE MAN himself. I guess there are a couple of haters out there.

I too have GREAT memories playing the early to mid Ultima titles, and got to learn early on about MMOs and all their pitfalls with the release of Ultima Online. I remember the lag on the servers back in the early days would get HORRIBLE!! And there were lots of things that seemed to catch the devs off guard (PKing and housing stick in my mind). I had a great deal of fun in that game though, and will always remember it as the start of this crazy MMO thing and the last great game in the Ultima series.

It was a truly groundbreaking title that set the stage for all that followed. Without that game, who knows where the world of MMOs would be today.

I implore Lord British to regain control of the Ultima IP and give us some new Brittania goodness. A new single player RPG from that series would be great, or at least I would look forward to it being great.

Deep safe spot nerf coming to EVE Online

Apr 14th 2010 3:41PM (Massively)
Isn't the creating Ultra Deep safes an exploit, and thus not CCP problem to protect people and ships that have used it? I was under the impression that it was taking advantage of game mechanics in a way they were not supposed to be used, ie an exploit.

EVE Evolved: What could planetary interaction be like?

Feb 22nd 2010 12:24PM (Massively)
I truly hope that they make planetary mining different from moon mining in very signifigant ways. I think they idea of some planets being manufacturing and industrial centers while others would be mining centers is a great idea. I also love the idea of all the planetary minerals feeding into the DUST system, rather than the EVE manufacturing pipeline. We will just have to wait for more details. I am afraid that you all may be more inventive than the Devs though. I hope to god they prove me wrong.

EVE Evolved: What could planetary interaction be like?

Feb 21st 2010 6:15PM (Massively)
Is it just me or does it just sound like CCP is going to allow moon mining but now on planets, with maybe a few new structures to build in space. I get no indication there will be anything that different from what we have been doing with Moons for years. This sounds like a very small change from what we already have, except for a massive influx of new minerals.

I am incredibly frustrated with CCP for outlining bold new initiative and plans and then coming out with expansions that are unrelated to their bold plans. Of course I am mostly talking about what is now Incarna, but also about Cosmos/New Eden/Eve Gate. Cosmos/New Eden was a feature they told us would be coming in the last expansion, but we basically got nothing. Now it is coming out one expansion later, and no mention of a timetable or target for THE MOST ANTICIPATED FEATURE IN THE HISTORY OF EVE!!!

Please Devs, focus on Incarna and Dust and other features you have teased in the past (atmospheric flying anyone?) rather than coming out with mechanic redesigns (Cap ships re balancing and all the Sovereignty changes) or unplanned features like planet mining.

The Daily Grind: And I never never never do a thing about the weather...

Oct 13th 2009 3:48PM (Massively)
On that point, MMOs dominated by crybabies, I think that we are really just dealing with a hyper-vocal minority in most cases. If people like something, they are much less likely to go on a forum posting spree than people with complaints. It seems to me, that one can find a lengthy thread complaining about every major system implemented in MMOs on the official forums.

To combat this vocal minority who will complain about every change sooooo loudly, I think it would be good for devs to implement player surveys at login. Maybe once a quarter, have a 3 or 4 question feedback survey that players must answer once before logging in. I think this would give the devs a much clearer idea of what the playerbase thinks than the forums currently do. I would certainly feel better knowing that the devs had a clearer picture of what the majority thinks of their game.
