Blizzard tells Diablo III fans to lower their expectations

Feb 24th 2012 12:42PM (Massively)
Bashiok wasn't joking like Blizzard is trying to make it look like. And I'm SURE the lead designer isn't going to come out and say "yeah what he said is true, this game isn't the 2nd coming" . While I'm sure the game will be fun it is just that a game and nothing more. The hype machine of games is getting out of control and I will go with Bashiok's first post, I too worry the game won't live up to the hype.

Rumor: Blizzard embracing F2P for unannounced game

If this IS referring to Titan I think it gives us a bit more understanding into their mindset for that game. They have said all along it will be a casual game, it will not compete with WoW (meaning it is not going to be a RPG) and it will have a broad audience. With the recent billions that companies like Zynga have been making with facebook games you can't really blame blizzard for going after the facebook crowd with their next big game.

They see how games trying to compete with WoW now can never meet expectations of a game that well developed and they know that they themselves could never make a game that would satisfy the WoW crazed people without keeping it in development for 10 plus years. WoW did a lot of good things for the MMO industry but it killed the chance of us ever getting a new revoluionary MMORPG because of the expectations it places on games content, that can never be met.

RIFT revenues reached $100 million in 2011, Trion secures new funding

Doing the math that would put active subs between 250-400k players. That is a pretty successful MMO and one that will continue to have a place in the market for a while to come.

BioWare hopes SWTOR lasts for decades

Depending on how they release content I will be interesting to see how long the game will thrive. IF they take the Blizzard route and make everything instant gratification, about loot more than anything and try to cater to every type of player, then I think the game will not be as popular in the long run. If they keep to their vision and make the game about the story, your character in this MMO landscape and your adventures along the way without making it a gear fest, I think the game can succeed.

They just need to make sure that progression is slow enough that they can keep content coming and end game has some fun features. While I don't think this game is going to be just like WoW where the game is all about getting to max lvl and then turns into a grind fest, I hope it doesn't move into that direction myself because 12 million people are bored to death with it. Leveling and story telling is where this game will set itself apart.

SDCC 2011: SWTOR invites you to join the fight with a new in-game trailer

While the graphics aren't ground breaking they are taking a page from Blizzard and making a game that can run on any machine. That is probably a smart idea. I don't necessarily see anything that reminds me of WoW like alot of you folks but WoW was a clone of every MMO that came out before it. As long as SWTOR releases content that requires people to actually play in the game world, I think they will get a segment of players that are homeless at the moment.

Every other MMO out right now is based on give it to me now mechanics and innovations that seriously make them suck and have no life. I guess we will see where this game goes but from my point of view, it looks like a game that can keep me interested in playing for more than 2 months at a time like every other MMO out right now.

E3 2011: SWTOR flies to Alderaan

To me the game looks like it will be very involving and much more a MMO focused on story and becoming one with your character. I haven't really seen much grouping or raid environments but if the story line is involved in those I think this game is going to be awesome. It doesn't appear to be your typical kill boss, loot boss and gear race type game. There are about 10 other MMO's out there that cover that. To me this game looks like it is unlike any other MMO out right now and that is what is needed, not another WoW clone.

Wasteland Diaries: Fallen Earth's first six months

I wouldn't say the vocal minority are bored at endgame. The vast majority of people leave the game and never say anything. I personally have lost over 400 ingame friends because of the lack of endgame. As it is now that is the games only weak point. No endgame system to keep people occupied. If you like taking your time there is easily 2 or 3 months worth of content for you to chew on but rolling an alt is not enough content to keep alot of players. Endgame must be the focus if this game is to ever survive long term.

FCC Commissioner blames WoW for college drop-outs

Dec 12th 2008 10:14AM (Massively)
I guess binge drinking and recreational drug use is not the issue anymore. lol When I was in college the internet was in its early years and we still had plenty of drop outs. People who lack dedication or direction will find anything to pass their time on. Gaming is nothing new its just WoW instead of staying up all night playing Madden while drinking liquor and smoking blunts.

Blizzard deal with in-game ad firm does not mean ads for WoW

I can see it now, undead can purchase Axe body spray. Tauren will wear Angus beef bracers. Humans will drive around in Toyota Trucks. It's already in the works lol.

Wrath of the Lich King breaks all previous records at GameStop

The Burning Crusade pushed me away from WoW over time as it disconnected people from the game world but with WOTLK everyone is back in the old world and the scenery reminds me of old world WoW. This expansion made me fall in love with WoW again after TBC ruined it for me. Kudos to Blizzard for not dropping the ball on this expansion as MMO's are only as good as their last expansion.
