Meet the Caldari Naga, EVE's latest battlecruiser

Nov 4th 2011 5:17PM (Massively)
Split systems can work, but they need a lot of utility slots to do so. Look at the slot layout on a Phoon, Domi or even a Myrmidon. All are useful not because of the split weapons platforms but in that they can deal sufficient DPS while having multiple roles and configurations. Problem with this ship is that is does not. No utility high, no drones, no tank. 3 Low slots, 2 of which will be damage mods. And a crazy big sig radius.

This ship will really only be used for one role successfully, snipe while relying on a range tank. I hope someone can find more uses for it but I just don't have the imagination for it. Though I know there will be at least a few people trying to mine in it like they would a Rokh ;)

Ship bonuses for split weapon systems will make this the weakest contender of the Tier 3 BCs. There is little need to bring this ship over a few Stealth Bombers if using torps. Blasters might work if but for the 3 lows this boat has. Keeping in optimal range will be difficult due to this. The only conceivable role this ship has is to duplicate the role of the Rokh for sniping.

Will be interesting to see where this ship finds a home in fleets.

Details of EVE's long-awaited hybrid balance patch revealed

Somewhat disappointed with the changes for blasters. My problem with them were less in the platform itself rather than the bonuses applied to the ships that carry them. Blasters to me has always been about going balls deep, close to optimal range and unleash hell in gank fit boats. I would have been happier with a bonus to microwarpdrive use, mass reductions or even more resilience to the effects of webifiers all of which would help in getting and staying on your target to keep your DPS on them.

The capacitor use reductions are nice. The changes to Tech II charges are nice as well.

SOE All Access pass goes live

Was salivating at the chance to go for this, but with Vanguard dead in the water and SWG dead in December, its going to be a little harder to get excited for. Love EQ2 and wouldn't mind trying out DCUO but still can't help but feel a bit let down.

EVE Online controversy erupts in protests

Massive failure if this one is true, and its being leaked by the same blog that announced the leaked internal newsletter and CEO's email.

Sony to acquire CCP. Now we know why SWG went bye-bye.

The Daily Grind: What are you hoping to hear from E3?

Would have been happier with a World of Darkness announcement rather than the letdown of the Dust 514 exclusivity-bungle (and yes I own a PS3.)

Maybe anything more from Perfect World/Cryptic on the Neverwinter Nights MMO though that is probably too far off to have much to say as of yet.

Sony responds to Congress with open letter, suggests 'Anonymous' was responsible

Should the class-actions suits force large settlements, I fear what this means specifically for SOE, whom already had drastic cuts in staff. With only aging properties, DCUO and a contingent of moderately-successful free titles lining up against highly-anticipated triple-a properties, we could see SOE close down entirely. In particular if the revenues they draw do not match the risks and costs of litigation.

The Daily Grind: What's the most poorly designed zone?

Oh and in Rift, how could I forget Gloamwood. That place has nearly killed the game for me and I really haven't had it in me to log in since.

The Daily Grind: What's the most poorly designed zone?

LoTRO - Angmar (especially prior to MoM). Moria is terrible in spots but Angmar is terrible.

WoW - Vashj'ir -. Beautiful but painful to do more than once.

EQ2 - Greater Faydark. Frustrating new player experience. Everything is crammed in some nook and cranny, up and down a tree, bloody tedious to start in.

EVE - Hi-Sec Caldari space. Overcrowded and nearly useless for anything but missionrunning.
