Cryptic's Neverwinter to be a 'full-fledged MMO'

Oct 6th 2011 1:16PM (Massively)
"a true MMO in the style of Vindictus or Rusty Hearts:"

god i hope they don't make it like Rusty Hearts. Haven't played Vindictus yet, but I did finally give Rusty Hearts a whirl on steam last weekend.

2 minutes later i uninstalled it.

New Hero Engine sandbox to feature 3-faction PvP, deep crafting

Sep 27th 2011 4:06PM (Massively)
I'm glad to see all of these sci-fi mmos pop up, we have been far to long stuck in a gaming genre overpopulated with dragons and wizards. Too bad after Earthrise I'm definitely more apprehensive to play an indie developed game.

New Firefall dev blog introduces super-secret surprise mystery writer!

Every time I see something about Firefall my brain see's Firefly instead and get caught up in a bout of spasmatic geek-like euphoria, then i realize its not Firefly and I die a little more inside :(

EA to be the sole source for SWTOR downloads [updated]

@alinos

Don't get me wrong, I'm not preaching about the evils of social media. I agree with you, I'm just getting tired of having social media integrated into every askepct of my life, especially my gaming. I don't need everyone to know what I'm doing all the time and sure as hell dont need more passwords to remember.

I have a facebook page, never tweeted, blog occasionally, etc etc. As a marketer by profession, social media servers a purpose (however what purpose it servers in industries outside of entertainment is still beyond me, aside from brand management. Really who sits at their computer and checks CAT's facebook page regularly?), but honestly I think we as a profession are giving social media way to much attention and effort. I met a marketer the other day that called themselves a social media "expert". really.....

The problem i have is that everyone and their mother is trying to emulate Facebooks success with their half assed super niche social networking sites, and they are forcing it into my gaming. How many communities do i really need to be apart of to play video games, and why don't i have a choice? I need one community, and that's my guild, maybe the forum community for whatever game i am playing, but that's really it.

Game developers, publishers, gaming marketers: Stop putting so much effort into social media. Instead put that effort into games that don't launch like shit, games that don't need to be patched 400 times in the first month. Put those resources into more testing, more QA. Hire an intern to update your Facebook page and take the rest of your marketing department and sit them down with a list of bugs to chase. That's the best marketing you can possibly do, making sure you are delivering a solid product.

"Oh and Market research shows that the percentage of people who don't want social integration in games is very small usually forty something’s who thinks the government is after them doesn’t want it."

need source for that please

"Origin is to act as a social network hub as well as a place to track all your EA game purchases, explained Riccitiello to the Wall Street Journal"

yes, because i need more social networks, i need one more fucking thing to log into. The 8.5 x 11 piece of yellow legal notepad paper that i hide in my desk that i write all my passwords on is not full yet. there is still some room of the back upper left hand corner, just below my suicide girls un and pw.

Dear Universe,
Please start to realize that forcing social media on your customers and adding extra layers of minutia is not a good thing, regardless of how successful Facebook is.

Dear Martketers,
Please stop. Customers in this market need innovation not imitation. Please do your job and stop following suit like sheep

@Cavadus

there's a reason a lot of us bailed shortly after launch, and it wasn't the forum pvp that's for sure.
I personally can only hold out optimistically for so long before its obvious when the ships going to sink, hell I played SWG through the NGE for a long long time, but ER....its just not there. It should have been in the cooker for another year. damn shame too....gonna use the P word.....
it had potential

SWTOR reinvents the tank role in PvP

May 5th 2011 2:40PM (Massively)
@DarkWalker

i hate to break it you twinkle toes but WoW isn't the only game with PVP out there, and arena PVP is by no means the litmus test for class viability in other games .

Tanks have a very viable role in PVP for a lot of games, GA, AoC, SWG, EVE, Darkfall, WAR etc. Just because you cant press a button to get someones attention and manage their aggro like a mob doesn't mean tanks aren't viable. They serve a very important role soaking up damage, pressing the line etc, rally point for assist targeting etc. PVP outside of the WoWbox and you may learn something.
