NCsoft dev discusses the genesis of Aion at GDC Europe

Thanks for the news :) Just want to highlight a typo: "affect the moral" should be "morale". Unless of course, if it really affected their morals :D

Massively's Aion closed beta key giveaway

@Jason There is a grind for crafting yes, that is to ensure not everyone becomes a crafter, that there is a market for it. But flight time is at a minimum 1 minute not 10 seconds, and 1.5 increases the number of quests in the game to soften the grind.

I only run an 8800GT, that allows me to play lag free in L2 sieges which are in the hundreds, and in Aion, I can achieve 40-200 FPS. I've not experience massive PVP in Aion, but my Korean friend says that it's alot better than L2, and Warhammer Online.

Massively's Aion closed beta key giveaway

Have you tried Aion? Even midline PCs can run this game and not suffer. Many of my friends are surprised by the sheer polish of the engine. Even in massive PVP, the framerate is still good. Come retail, it will be patched to 1.5 for the US/EU and that includes a further major improvement to the engine performance.

Hellgate: London staying alive through free-to-play

Jan 26th 2009 1:29PM (Massively)
I love the Hellgate IP - the concept, the story, the visuals. What made it failed here in Asia was because players couldn't find the content - patch were months late, and many patches never made it to us. And the angst of a failed payment system - not billing like in the US. But it never reached our shores.

Local servers lagged bad. Players from Hong Kong suffered with unplayable lag.

The Daily Grind: How important are friends to MMO gaming?

Nov 19th 2008 8:46AM (Massively)
A pic of Felicia Day and Sandeep XD Copyright!

Do you decide which MMO to play based on where your friends are?
Yes, I tend to play MMOs where most of my friends are. However, I must be able to stand the MMO. For example: UI is very important to me, if it's crap: no matter how many friends are there, I just can't bear to continue playing it.

How important are other people to your continued MMO gaming?
Very important, a good community with mature gamers is what I like. Otherwise, I'll just play multiplayer games instead of MMOs.

If your friends weren't playing the game they are, would you be?
I do, mainly because I love the genre, and like to explore all the top MMOs that gets released.

How much does the directly social nature of massively multiplayer games affect your gameplay?
Quite abit.

Mark Jacobs makes the case for playing WAR instead of WoW

Like a casual gamer would care if it takes him longer than a hardcore gamer to reach the endgame. As long as it's fun, and not a waste of time (ie. finding groups, etc.) or have long commitments like 6 hour raids: then it's indeed a good casual game.

Warhammer Online director expects three million subscribers

Warhammer is fantastic, its timing couldn't be better in a genre that is getting more stale with every rushed, failed, release.
