Bring your pals to The Old Republic with a newly extended Friends Trial

Apr 3rd 2012 7:28PM (Massively)
@(Unverified) I suppose the benefit of inviting someone, is to get to play with them? I dunno, that seems to me to be quite a big benefit. Why does everything have to be measured in items or rewards of some kind? Having more people to play with, is a reward for EVERYONE.

EVE's Crucible 1.5 patch hits tomorrow, brings new launcher

Mar 12th 2012 2:08PM (Massively)
Played Eve a couple of years ago. If CCP ever decided to make it F2P, I -might- consider playing it again. When so much time is spent on skill training (which progresses while offline), I find very little reason to pay for a subscription cost.

On the other hand, if they made "High sec" and "Tier 1" ships/mods a limit for "Free" players, but with the ability to purchase and train skills for any ship/mod, that might tempt some people back to the game.

OT: It's nice that CCP is finally bringing it's game upto 2010s-standard. Now they just need to enable "on demand" patching, so you can enter the game quickly, and patch while playing.

GDC 2012: The Firing Line talks release dates with Tribes Ascend's Todd Harris

@Traptz

I believe the Tribes news is somewhat related, since it's from a MMO developer (Hi-Rez Studios / Global Agenda).

SWTOR putting a mailbox on the Millennium Falcon (and other Q&A tidbits)

@Pasha

I guess you've never played MMO:s in the past. WoW goes months without new content, and people continue to subscribe to it. STO went 11 months without new content, people continue to subscribe to it.

Can't expect new content on a weekly/monthly basis, no matter how much you might want it.

Guild Wars 2 console version confirmed

Feb 15th 2012 12:01PM (Massively)
MMOs on consoles, quite simply... DON'T WORK!

I had a vague interest in Guild Wars 2 before, now i'm not as certain. Especially since things will inevitably get nerfed on the PC version, to accomodate for console players.

Diablo III sort of confirmed for Q2 2012

Feb 10th 2012 10:32AM (Massively)
After the latest Activision conference call, WoW lost "only" 100k subscriptions. Not bad, considering the amount of people they "suckered" into buying the Annual Pass. Most of which, most likely bought it to get free access to Diablo 3 beta, and the game itself when it's launched.

The interesting numbers, will be next quarter when they factor in the losses to games such as SWTOR.

I'm surprised Diablo 3 hasn't been released yet, considering all the features that keep getting removed (after first being promised).

Lichborne: 5 common death knight mistakes

Jan 31st 2012 9:50PM (WoW)
2 of the above issues could be solved quite easily: Make the "Taunt effect" only applicable while in Blood Presence. Death Grip becomes an extra Taunt for tanks, or a "mob mover" for DPS, for example if you have a runner headed towards the Healer, and to help "move" the mob to close proximity of the boss.

Army of the Dead, same thing here, only applicable to Blood Presence, and with it's current expensive 3 Rune cost, remove the channeling requirement.

RIFT introducing some big PvP buffs in patch 1.7

Jan 30th 2012 3:03PM (Massively)
@Vinzix

Seeing as SWTOR only has 2 "Endgame Raids" so far, I don't think you've given it enough of a chance at Endgame as of yet. How many raids did RIFT launch with? In the 12 months that RIFT has been around, they got 3 "Raids" and 3 "Slivers" (all in all 3 raids for one group of players, 3 raids for another group). So 6 raids in 12 months, averaging 1 raid each other month.

SWTOR 1.1 launched the second full-fledged raid less than a month after release, with a major content push promised to come out in March.

Cryptic and Alienware giving away free Star Trek Online goodies

Jan 24th 2012 1:42PM (Massively)
@Maseno Yes

It's alot like the TOS Constitution, and Oberth Class. Both designed for lowlevel players as a "replacement" for the default Miranda Class (+ subtypes). NX Class is more of an Escort.
