Going to The Grand Masquerade in New Orleans? We want you!

You're paying some random guy or girl to go but not paying for travel and accommodations? AND you're not even getting them tickets to the event? Probably the most awkward thing Massively's ever done.

Cryptic's financial model seems to be to sell subs until players realize the game stinks, then go F2P and hope people think the game gets better if you pay for it.

I wanted to play TSW really bad. Now I'm not, simply because I will refuse to pay money every month, plus buying the client, plus paying for items, in order to play a game. There are better single player games out there that only charge me once, thanks.

Actually I understood you perfectly. You clearly fall into category "a."

20% of the game being broken is still broken. Broken by a great big gigantic chunk. I'm not paying money to wait for a game to fix itself. Have fun waiting for that to happen, since the developers are clearly not concerned, as they're spending their limited time and resources on a port.

I guess you make a good point about MMOs. We have two options, basically:

a) play a game that is awful because it's broken. At least we can think about all the great things it should have!
b) play a game that is awful because it's a mindless derivative. At least its pretty and does what it's supposed to. Too bad what its supposed to do is about as fun as a lobotomy.

And that, friends, is the industry. I suppose there's also:

c) play a game that is awful because it's mindless AND broken.

And why would we play "Option C"? I don't know. But somebody apparently plays, because this garbage is still around.

We COULD choose to simply stop putting money into games that fall into category a, b, or c, and then they'll stop making those games.

The Daily Grind: Which MMO has the hardest learning curve?

Aug 9th 2011 12:07PM (Massively)
@Dril

Difficulty and how much it takes to learn the game are not the same. WoW is neither difficult to learn nor difficult to play. EVE takes a lot of learning to effectively operate a ship. No, its not "hard," but we're not discussing difficulty, are we? We're discussing learning curve, and that can be defined as the knowledge required to play the game at various points. A new pilot jumping into the cockpit likely cannot even figure out how to move his ship in EVE, contrasted to WoW, which has an intuitive and familiar control scheme similar to many games. Even the UI takes learning in EVE.
