The Mog Log: Final Fantasy XIV beta phase 1 and 2 - FATEs and dungeons

Game on: NFL likeness lawsuit against EA moving forward
Mar 31st 2012 4:01PM (Joystiq)I'm no EA hater or anything either, but this is just too ironic and ridiculous to let pass without commenting. I almost wish Notch's "Mars Effect" was a real thing and that he would claim a right to continue development and sale under the First Amendment as well, just to see what EA's hypocritical response would be.
Rumor: Elder Scrolls MMO to be announced in May
Mar 15th 2012 11:09PM (Massively)I'm sure this is going to receive some amount of negativity and complaining from the ever present vocal minoroty/trolls/Debbie Downers out there (it wouldn't be the internet if it didn't), but I just cannot understand anyone who does not have the capacity to appreciate a multiplayer Elder Scrolls game, or who doesn't understand how this could be anything but a great thing.

Mar 14th 2012 12:29AM (Joystiq)Lime Odyssey shutting down in Korea [Updated]
Mar 2nd 2012 11:41PM (Massively)That's awesome news! Thanks for the link too =)
I just saw this and was heading back to report that I just received an alpha test invite via email from Aeria for Lime Odyssey (yay!). This invite and the news you just shared have renewed my hope for a release on this side of the pond by Aeria.
Now to download and play! Assuming there is no NDA, I may share some impressions...
Lime Odyssey shutting down in Korea [Updated]
Mar 2nd 2012 3:09PM (Massively)Sorry to see it end before it even got a decent chance. I hope Mitsuda's music will be saved at least.

Feb 27th 2012 11:29AM (Massively)I hear you. I found myself doing the same thing early on, shortly after the "piggie" quest I think (sigh) and that is what kills me. I'm usually the guy who actually reads all the quests and enjoys the lore and story, but it was just completely not on par with what I expect from a AAA MMO at this point.
I was disappointed because I do want to like Tera, but I couldn't develop any connection to the game when I had no clue, and no interest, in figuring out who my character was and what he was doing on a mysterious island where quest-givers had me killing X amount of "piggies" (no kidding) and other cutesy-looking woodland creatures within the first handful of quests. Guess "piggies" are the new rats in Tera. Don't worry though, you get to dodge or block the "piggies" in combat. And I suppose that makes it better. /sarcasm
I agree that new games will simply have to do more, at least in the lore/storytelling department, to keep my attention. That, or find a new way to deliver your quests and content. I'm not going to spend hours reading badly written quests and trying to care about a game's world when I can spend that same time actually reading something worth reading and caring about. I won't even go on about voice acting.

Feb 27th 2012 11:18AM (Massively)It isn't. It did however point out in tongue-in-cheek fashion how similar the art style and character design are, along with other thematic elements. I was simply pointing out that if it is going to share these things in common, then I hope Bless also does not share the lack of quality I noticed in regards to localisation, questing, voices and story.

Feb 27th 2012 11:15AM (Massively)We can agree to disagree then. Play Dragon Nest. For being a "F2P grinder" (Which it is not. It is a highly instanced, team-based, dungeon focused game with towns and quest hubs) it features some quality localisation and very decent voice acting along with a combat system that is almost identical to Tera's. This is quite a feat, especially for having to carry the whole "F2P" stigma thing around. Another example would be Vindictus, though the combat is admittedly not as similar to Tera's as Dragon Nest.
My point is that if supposedly low quality F2P games like Dragon Nest can do a similar combat system and a decent job telling their story in interesting and fun ways, than I expect this and more from a game that asks me to buy the box and pay a sub fee.

Feb 27th 2012 10:51AM (Massively)Action Combat or no, the storytelling and voice acting in Tera is as bad as sub-par localization efforts on many console JRPGs were years ago. I just couldn't get into it as much as I wanted to thanks to the ho-hum storytelling, outdated questing, and way over-hyped combat that, in fact, is nothing new at all except for the fact that this is a "full-fledged" MMORPG. (And before anyone accuses me of not having played Tera enough, I made it to level 17 as a Slayer and combat/questing was really not that exciting. Also, if you've played Dragon Nest, you've experienced Tera's combat. Don't take my word for it though...)
My point is that if this is going to feature the same disappointing quality En Masse has shown with Tera, it could be as pretty as it wants to be, I'm still going to have to pass. I mean, seriously, it isn't enough to simply look "next-gen" or amazing, as a game releasing in this genre and at this point in time, you really need to actually play that way too.

Feb 24th 2012 11:40PM (Massively)[I want to point out that I haven't played SWTOR since beta and do not see, personally, how it could be a disappointment to so many. I will be playing it soon and judging for myself. I am just commenting on the amount of negativity regarding it while logged into other online games I have played recently and how that may have something to do with the level of hype involved with SWTOR.]
Unless I see anything to indicate otherwise, this is no longer a day one purchase for me. I will most likely still play it at some point, but I'll wait for the eventual sale, regardless of how long after launch that may be. Perhaps then, and at that price point, it will again be something worth get excited about. For me, anyway.
