The Daily Grind: Where do you go after the end of the world?

Feb 16th 2010 1:18AM (Massively)
An even bigger danger is that the MMO you cut your teeth on NEVER goes away. My first was Darkages by Nexon, it's a pale shadow of its former glory, but it's still around. Unfortunately thats enough to keep a few friends and I reopening our accounts a couple times a year.

Avoiding a sinking game

I disagree. If anything, check out sinking games if you've not given them the chance already. I've had lots of fun with games that have eventually ended up shutting down. Hellgate London, and Tabula Rasa among them.

Tabula Rasa's shutdown salute schedule

As much as I think NCsoft dropped the ball on TR, this sounds like a great sendoff and how it should be done.

RIP Tabula Rasa, you join Hellgate as a fpsmmo that just needed more love.

The Daily Grind: Would you check back in on Age of Conan for free?

Very doubtful. I would default to my evergrowing list of single player titles I've missed in the last few years before bending over for another round with that fiend.

Worlds.com files suit against NCsoft for patent infringement

This sort of crap is why I advocate for at the least a reworking and more strict oversight in the patent system, just because what they are doing is defined as legal doesn't mean it also falls under the header of respectable.

News flash: MMOs rule

WoW is the better game at the moment, but Warhammer is pretty quickly fixing it's problems.

Personally, I like the idea of Warhammer much more, and have been getting tired of Blizzard so drasticly mixing the game up every expansion. Though I'm sure im in the minority there, and that's fine.

Ask a WAR Beta Tester: Let's get this show on the road!

Has Mythic seemed to hint that they would be beefing up the renown point options? Looking around on WARdb it seemed a little Vanilla of them. (Though I was relieved to not find Dodger in the list of options!)

It's Pandemonium in Final Fantasy XI

My knee jerk reaction to this is that it's the most mindbogglingly sadistic thing they could do short of asking for a pound of flesh.

On the other hand, Many other games have had bosses that were nearly unbeatable. The first two that come to mind was the original Hibernian Dragon in DAoC, and the Sleeper in EQ. I actually like the idea of the nearly impossible boss with the secret strategy to defeat them, but on the other hand making them is probably considered a crime against humanity.

Erling Ellingsen steps up to the plate on Age of Conan forums

I agree that it's too little too late. The game at its core had alot of promise, but beyond the combat system it's all a little too Vanilla.

But neither Funcom nor the lacky who you're talking about deserves our respect, they've consistenly lied to us, misled us, and wasted our time and money. They may as well just copy and paste portions of the local phonebook into their patch notes, for all the good they do.

Sorry for the wall of text, but I mean they couldn't even get the dialogue camera to work right before launch, that sounds like an alpha/beta problem to me.
