The Soapbox: My MMORTS is more MMO than your MMORPG

Mar 9th 2012 1:32PM (Massively)
I would suggest Illyriad. I've tried a couple of the others but nothing really beats the friendly community in Illyriad. At first glance I thought it appeared simple, but the more I got into it the more I saw the complexity. It reminded me of eve-online in a mmorts world. I think eve has more depth, but considering Illy is f2p and the community consists of friendly players it really can't be beat. It can also be played on any device with a browser. Give it a shot http://illyriad.com/?55601, you really don't have much to lose other than a little time.

MMObility: The 16 MMOs in my pocket

It would be great if there were an app for Illyriad on android and apple. I'd gladly pay for an Illy app to have different pages dedicated to specific tasks like browsing the map with ease for prime real estate or sending out armies to level commanders. It's time consuming enough to really not want to bother with zooming in all the way and hoping you click on the correct option.

I liked how easy it was to select actions in The Infinite Black. If it would make Illyriad much more enjoyable on phones if it had something similar.

I do take the time to keep building queues flowing on my phone, but that's about it.

You (yes, you) can expand Firefall's gameworld

I hope at some point this game could be an alternative to Planetside 2. Of course it sounds so far like it may lack massive scale battles in the open world with territory control. Match play can be fun but does not compare to a war that can rage on for days/weeks at a time.

Free-to-play Nadirim launches today

Nov 7th 2011 7:08PM (Massively)
It looks like a decent game. I played it for a bit and the art and music really are nice. The Arabian Nights theme is also a nice change from your typical fantasy RPG. It's kind of odd having a 2d character moving around but you get used to it after playing for a bit. The combat system is kind of neat. It reminds me of old final fantasy fights or other RPG's on old systems. I'm still not sure if this is pay to win yet or not but will continue to play with it off and on between playing Illyriad and World of Tanks. MMObility: Ten terrific titles for this nifty new netbook

I've really enjoyed Illyriad so far. You need to have a little patience but it really is a great community who assists new players. Nice toy Beau. I'd like to play me some Illy on a kindle fire. I can mess around with it a little on the kindle 3g, and play it pretty easy on an evo 4g but the screen is small but you can still chat with alliance members etc.

Give it a try. Shameless plug for recruitment link which gives a little prestige. http://illyriad.com/?55601

Free for All: An inside look at Illyriad Games

I initially started playing Illy due to one of Beau's articles. It's amazing the depth the game has. I can keep in touch with alliance members on my phone and find myself playing it a lot. Having such a friendly community was a big turn on to playing the game. Try it, at least complete the tutorial to see if you dig it. It's slow at first, but gets more entertaining the faster you get resources to build and understand the complexity of the game.

Here is a recruitment link, gives a bonus of prestige if the player uses it gets to 100 population. http://illyriad.com/?58996 Be sure to claim prestige once every 24 hours on the herald page, it's worth a lot more than the resources. The herald is located under the H button next to the world map. Here is a new player guide to offer some direction http://forum.illyriad.co.uk/tips-for-new-players_topic1894.html

[Updated] Win a copy of DC Universe Online from Massively!

I would make a Lobo like character. He's my favorite DC character, especially when illustrated by Bisley!

Get your Global Agenda limited edition helms while they last

These helms are pretty cool looking but it stinks to be on a time crunch to get them being a casual player. It would have been better if they put an achievement in the game to work on at my own pace rather than tempt me to overlook RL responsibilities to ensure I get 25 wins in.

I did some mercs yesterday and to just get one win it took me 5 losses. Pugs can be pretty brutal at times.

Hi-Rez Studios announces development of Tribes Universe MMO

Oct 23rd 2010 11:15PM (Massively)
I think this sounds great. I've really been enjoying GA when I have time to play but it does lack the persistent world battles and vehicular combat. I think GA is an excellent game and offers a lot of entertainment for its price. It's not perfect, but Planetside has been dying for years and it's about time something else has started development with similar gameplay.

I've played SOE games for a long time and look forward to seeing what Planetside Next will offer but SOE is known to continually drop the ball by not listening to their playerbase. Hi-Rez seems to listen to theirs and creating a larger scale game is what many have been asking for all along. I wish them the best and look forward to the game.

There hasn't been enough development for mmofps. People should welcome any attempts and not piss and moan about doom and gloom. I think if they can implement a similar f2p model they have with GA it will have a pretty big playerbase which should serve them well. Good luck Hi-Rez.
