Ask Massively: So? How is it?

That would be pretty interesting..lvl cap of 60 and all..

Anti-Aliased: Mourning Frostmourne, part 2

Nov 12th 2008 11:45AM (Massively)
I have to agree. I feel that it's one thing to kill Illidan and then come back the next day and he's there to be killed yet again. Giving a sword, that has it's own history and is an integral part in the overall lore of the game, to everyone that grinds away at Arthas cheapens its meaning in the story. You already suspend your disbelief about the fact that everyone you see is a "hero" in the game, everyone has the ability to, with a handful of friends, defeat monsters that entire armies can't win against. If I get a Massive Long Bow of Epic Tranquility, that's one thing.. but Frostmourne? Something that key to the game, even if it has an insanely low drop rate, cheapens the experience for everyone I feel. I'm already a little irked about the idea that everyone can be a Deathknight, but oh well.

One Shots: Orgrimmar under attack

Nov 11th 2008 4:26PM (Massively)
I really wish I could be there for this as it looks like a lot of fun!

And in regard to the posting of Too Much WoW (since this seems to be brought up all the time) I decided to go back through November to see just how many times WoW has been brought up in comparison to other titles. Note: I didn't count One-Shots or topics that simply had a picture of WoW but that did not deal with the game directly.

Everquest 2: 3
SW: Knights of the old Republic: 5
Lord of the Rings Online: 7
World of Warcraft: 11
Warhammer Online: 6
Second Life: 9
Tabula Rasa: 3
Eve: 20
Age of Conan: 3

Now, I know that if I went back another month or so there might be even more WoW related articles, but if you go back just a bit more you'd find the gamut of WAR articles. Back a bit more and you'd be flooded with Age of Conan. Point being, you're hearing about these games so much because they're just about to come out/have just hit. And in reality there aren't as many WoW articles as it may seem (I believe part of this is due to the articles which I mentioned above, which have a display picture of WoW, but don't necessarily deal with the game, or deal with MMOs in general).

The Daily Grind: Do expansions cheapen all that hard work?

Nov 11th 2008 12:44PM (Massively)
That's good to hear, and I certainly hope it ends up that way. I came to WoW about 6 months before BC came out, and hit 60 just before its release. I was quite excited to use the few bits of dungeon gear I had managed to obtain and was frankly pretty annoyed that nearly every green drop I got in Hellfire Penninsula was replacing something I had either spent a lot of time or money to get.

But to the question at hand, I don't believe expansions necessarily cheapen the hard work (except in the above case, which I'm honestly surprised passed beta as such). For me it both adds some neat places to explore, and at the same time adds to the grind..which is essentially what you're playing for it seems.

New Dead Space weapons, skins coming Nov. 13

Nov 10th 2008 3:06PM (Joystiq)
Meh. As someone else mentioned, paying for levels is one thing, but for tweaked numbers and a few skins? Nah. I much prefer the option to change the numbers myself, and add in decals.

Stardock sticking with Q1 release strategy for next half decade

Nov 10th 2008 2:10PM (Joystiq)
I'm quite impressed with Stardock's attitude to releasing games, and it's unfortunate that more game companies don't follow. I can't count how many games were pushed for the big holiday release that either got buried under all the others and I never heard about, or if I did know of them..I went for something else instead. Releasing throughout the rest of the year probably would have helped in those situations as I'm the kind of person that never passes a game store without popping in, ready to throw down some cash if a game piques my interest!

Thanks for all the Birthday well-wishes!

Woo! This was fun, and congrats to whomever the winners are! I only wish I hadn't been moving when all this started and was able to get in on more of it!

One of my favorite things about the site is the handy list of games on the side that links to all the articles about the particular game. It's a nice way for me to easily scroll through games I never knew existed, get some info on them, and perhaps even give them a try!
