I think this article is a poor generalization. The writer and people who agree only see these patterns because they mostly pay attention to people who do fit the patterns.
Players like myself are at ease with playing any class. We don't try and "express ourselves" with video game characters and would be hard pressed to call anything a "main character". I am sure there are plenty of others who feel the same way, and maintain a full separation between the player and the various video game avatars.
I for one thought it was a great article, and he made very good points. It is disappointing that many of the comment replies resort to ad hom instead of discussing the article.
As stated by Seabury, social connectivity is a given and this is redefining what makes a game "massive". Farmville is quite massive due to the large number of people playing it through the Facebook community. Those of us who are flexible enough to see this are probably also flexible enough to see what Seabury is getting at as well. I think it is great that he decided to take this opportunity to do something that is more fun for him.
I have not been able to find information on "Click!" but it seems to me that END's other game "Vorp!" is already off to a great start.
Why does it take you 100ish hits to kill a duckspider? Is the nanobot really just wet papier-mâché? I'm sure it takes only 1 hit from an average baseball bat to do the same job. Aside from that, game looks pretty fun.
@Dblade what this man said is spot-on, although the jab at RIFT players was uncalled for. We do not see innovation in mainstream MMO for the same reason we do not see innovation in reality TV or blockbuster movies: because the folks fronting the money generally want to stick to what is known to work.
I'm a little surprised you have been working in the opinion business for so long before realizing hate mail is inevitable. With that said, keep up the good work and level up the flame retardant suit.
