Community upset causes Cryptic to make a statement on STO promotion

Mar 2nd 2010 9:44PM (Massively)
Why couldn't they? I mean, they already promised it to any new subscribers, and if they are as desperate as you (and many, many others) say, what do they have to lose?

I agree that they shouldn't have offered the 90 days of game time in the first place, at least this close to the game's release. It just makes them look desperate when they should be trying to look confident.

Community upset causes Cryptic to make a statement on STO promotion

This shouldn't have been as big of a deal as it was. After their initial misstep of offering a VASTLY better deal to new subs, they should've just added an extra 60 days to their current subscribers' time. It would have cost them to do so, but considering they already pissed off a big chunk of their current subs, this would have taken the damage and taken it in the opposite directly, bad publicity quickly turning into a new, positive outlook (or at least a more positive one). Unfortunately, however, they chose the route that would anger not only their current players but potential ones as well.

Do these people have no understanding of PR? Seriously.

Now that I think of it, the whole 3 month sub thing only works if the content is there to keep people on after the initial time period. Maybe Cryptic/Atari doesn't feel confident enough that they can keep their players that long, making the short term cash reward the better deal for them.

Whatever was going through their minds, it definitely doesn't make me want to buy their game.

The Daily Grind: What's your first MMO?

Oct 26th 2009 3:27PM (Massively)
I started my MMO career (so to speak) in Guild Wars. It's still my favorite, although that's probably due to the nostalgia more than anything. Every once in awhile I'll hop on there and plow through a campaign with my supremely decked heroes, just for old times. I also get on whenever my old guild decides to work on Hall of Monuments-related affairs.

Overall, I'd say my MMO history looks like this:
GW>WoW>WAR>COX>WoW:Wrath>EVE

I really didn't like COX. No offense to those who do, it just wasn't my thing. EVE, however, I'm loving to death.

The top five Guild Wars features we take for granted

Guild Wars is the game I always go back to. Whether it's because I'm burned out on other types of games or I'm so strapped for cash I can't spend the $15/month for EVE or WoW, I end up reinstalling GW and playing it for months on end like my life depended on it.

Win yourself a Guild Wars 2 art book from Massively

As someone who picked up every Collector's Edition of the GW campaigns, this art book is a must have. If I don't get it here I'll get it another way.

Will Guild Wars 2 be your holy grail?

To get all the skills, just change your secondary profession to each class and cap them all. Whatever you have capped will also be usable by your heroes.

ArenaNet releases Guild Wars 2 trailer

I'm almost positive it's Asuran technology. It looks a lot like the architecture in Rata Sum seen here: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Rata_Sum

ArenaNet releases Guild Wars 2 trailer

Did anyone else feel like this was a big "F*** YOU" from Arenanet to everyone claiming GW2 is vaporware? I mean, we went from having basically nothing to go on for 2 years to a trailer featuring not just beautiful concept art but in-game footage. The only way it could've been better is if they'd shown how the UI and combat looks.

This game has me more pumped than any game in years.

Like pretty much everyone above me has said, LOTRO please.
