Yeah I guess in your situation it sucks, for me I have tanked several progression fights for my guild as of late; after these changes go through with changes on top of that I think we will be sitting very well in deed.
Crushing blows are going away, Defense will come solely from gear, threat baseline for all tanking capable classes went up, with the Protection/Tanking trees adding more threat but vastly larger survivability for warriors and paladins at least, have not looked at druids and still sorting out the Deathknights.
Things are changing, from what i see for the better.
Single Target threat isn't a factor but now we have more options. paladin tanking is fun it is now more diverse, and we have more tools to use. I will admit lack of an oh-crap button beyond LoH hurts but I am not a trash tank and never have been.
If anything the rules for tanking are changing, we won't need spell damage in the expansion like we do now, allowing us more freedom to gear ourselves. Hell we can use warrior tank weapons and still gain a sizeable benefit from it. Things are better now, and we have internal synergy.
2) We need another spammable threat button for single target threat.
3) We now have more options to gear ourselves up, we still get spell damage from tank gear; this is very good.
4) With the overlap on Holy Shield now, it is not exactly critical to hit HS whenever the cooldown is up. Plus with Crushing Blows either going away or greatly diminished it becomes more of a pure threat/mitigation button now then a critical life saver.
I am very interested in what the gems will be like as a Jewelcrafter. JC was the frist crafting skill i actually enjoyed and felt very useful all throughout the current expansion. I hope they throw in some surprises in WotLK to spice things up though.
Maybe more actual Jewelty recipes perhaps that don't suck or are just resistance pieces?
