@roberticvs Agreed. It's pretty comical how the Massively staff bash WoW incessantly and praise TOR to the high heavens. Almost my entire guild left WoW for TOR. Two months later, we're almost all back in WoW, or not playing TOR. We have several members who simply can't get the game to run without getting gray screens. Several others of us are just bored by the lifelessness of the game. Others hit endgame and found nothing but dull grind.
This game is the turkey of the year, if not decade. Tons of money spent, outsanding IP, company with a great track record. All the stars should have aligned. Instead they get this insipid, designed-by-committee, lifeless generic MMO with server sizes that barely even count as massive. The gap between what could have been and what is is just depressingly huge.
I don't understand why Massively even bothers to open comments on some stories. It's impossible to have a discussion about WoW or Blizzard on this site because the users (and to large extent, the writers) are hugely patronizing and predisposed to bash WoW.
"Why is it that Invincible was a 100% drop off heroic Lich King while you can get the red fire hawk off normal Ragnaros? Why give awesome mounts to people who don't deserve it?"
please take note of this gravity-defying eyeroll...
It's simply baffling to me that WoWInsider would post this article. The game is losing people left and right because of Cataclysm's unfun, grindy, punishing similarity to Vanilla. Why on EARTH would you bring back something that makes content even less accessible?
Hey, WoWInsider -- how about covering the massive discontent out there with Cataclysm?
Would be nice to get WoW insider bloggers who didn't shill for a) RP, b) Blizzard devs and c) 25-man raiding. There are a lot of people who hate the new healing model and I've not seen hide nor hair of their complaints except dismissive twattle like this.
"He clearly doesn't like how Bioware is ruining all their their games by dumbing them down for the stupid people who can only play FPS's and WoW just for them to make a little more money."
How on earth is a single-player RPG ever going to be less "dumbed-down" than a first-person-shooter or an online RPG? I love Baldur's Gate II like a perfect child, but to say that it's a more challenging game than World of Warcraft is absurd.
There's tons of easy stuff in WoW; but there are also things in WoW that are harder than almost anything in any other game. Do the people who complain that the game is too easy have top-rated Arena teams and defeat raid bosses on the hardest of hard modes?
If they do, then they're a tiny, tiny fraction of the people who actually play WoW. And they're still doing things that are too difficult for most players.
In reality, what's happened is that people who don't like WoW for some reason or accessibility in games in general (largely people who react reflexively to bandwagons) are piling on this latest meme. And they'll launch it at SWTOR when it is even less like what they want.
Man up and cover this issue aggressively, WoW.com. This is one of the biggest flaps ever to hit this game, and it's likely to make some kind of mainstream press, or at least the tech press. You've got a chance to show actual journalistic chops here.
