The Game Archaeologist and the SysOp's Sinister Stratagem

Aug 31st 2010 1:59PM (Massively)
My old WWIV board ran a great Fallout style door called Operation Overkill ... highly underrated, even had a simple ASCII "overview" showing surrounding landscape. Sure miss the thrill of some of those days!

Any ansi artists around Atlanta area from '95-'97 remember a group called RELiC ? a bit amateur next to the big guys, but worth a shout! -Manifesto :)

APB's lead designer discusses pricing model

May 10th 2010 8:26AM (Massively)
unless i read the apb faq wrong, they offer a monthly fee of $10 for unlimited play. cheaper than nearly every mmo out there, so what are you griping about? the alternative options was like 6 or 7 bucks for 50 hours a month of play time. Again, what is to complain about in terms of pricing? whether or not the game is any good is a different issue. my guess is you just didnt read about it but relied on dummies like me in comment sections for your information.

APB's lead designer discusses pricing model

May 9th 2010 3:15PM (Massively)
this game has potential... and i'd personally punch any nerd in the face who complains about offering a variety of pricing models (like them or not, options offer choice) --- however ive yet to get a court date for my last battery charge this summer. SOOOO... im going back to nerding it up and laying low.

Like the game or not (fast and furious retarded, or GTA cool who can say) you HAVE to check out their podcasts on the crafting systems. Its f'ing amazing because you dont just click on a pile of rocks, you actually can sell graphic designs of your own, or even use their spiffy music composing program (think Fruityloops simplified) loaded with samples to make music that u sell. Crafting that involves...making crap, not clicking on millions of piles of crap. interesting. My -fear- is mmo players cant handle REALLY creating something instead of clicking, my -hope- is mmo players (if the game doesnt suck) turn into a creative force and make cool shnit!

The myth of the World of Warcraft tourist

Jan 26th 2010 2:30PM (Massively)
Swore off WoW after BC ...then Conan (2 mo, lacked at release) ...then WAR (1 yr, excuses) ...then Aion (2 months, too grindy) .... I just fired up WoW again and rolled anew about a month ago. Can't believe I'm sucked into it again, primarily the PvP aspects.

I like to give every MMO a try, I dont like to compare to WoW at all. But fun is fun and I don't want to pay double subscription fees.

Massively interviews WAR's producer on the future of the game

Nov 25th 2009 12:50PM (Massively)
Man, i really had fun with War the first 6 months or so... didn't realize its gone so downhill. Oddly, i never felt a sense of class inbalance... just a sense of you need to stick with a group and not try to solo rvr (unlike wow where everyone wants equal classes)... Aion seems the same way, more about group fighting than solo.

At least they are offering free to play for first tier. I might give that a shot b/c the first tier was the best anyway.... and Aion is boring the piss out of me. :/

WRUP: Who wants to be a superhero edition

Feeling burned out on the Aion grind, ended that sub a few days ago. Starting to miss Warhammer actually!

Seems like my inbox is full of all the free week offers from various old MMOs.

I think I got ADD when it comes to MMOs, finding it hard to get hooked with the options now. Mebbe i'm getting old!

Sony under fire for "racist" advertising

Jul 13th 2006 9:50AM (Engadget)
Anyone that says this is poor marketing is completely wrong. Every comment made here proves what an entirely successful campaign this is.

Sony's successfully evoked emotion, thought, passion, and now their ad is posted on blogs, RSS, and everyone is talking about it--an advertisement about the new PSP. That's success.

And the Dutch fellow is 100% correct. You're looking at a NON-American advertisement. Just as in the US a HOOTERS billboard is acceptable, such an advert would not be acceptable in other societies.
