I have noticed that Cryptic has done a really good job for people just like you: familiar with the Star Trek universe, but not in the "big know" like a fan. They explain things really well for the uninitiated and even explain where and when you are in relationship to the most recent movie.
You should do just fine. And apparently it is a major "open house" weekend this weekend... A perfect time to give it a go.
She's pretty. As for that advert and being banned for "too much cleavage"? Pure and simple bullshit. "Desperate Housewives" adverts a few years ago (even on Superbowl) were a lot racier and a helluva lot closer to "R" rating than this advert could ever be.
I though this advert was done is a very classy way: Very attractive woman, a little "bosom tease" here and there, but NOTHING "sexually" suggestive at all.
I say ditto with your statement on the why it was "banned".
I admit I have often taken Linden lab's side in many "whiner complaints" with regard to Second Life being "Linden Lab's house' and we all are "guests" there.
However, in this case where they are specifically targeting the old mantra of "it's your world and imagination, blah, blah" and the way uncle Phil threw around the whole "you *own* it" business...
Well, I must agree that this is definitely a case to watch as it will set some serious precidents if it actually goes all the way through. I would suspect that Linden lab will argue that 'things change over time" and something to the effect of "if you owned virtual land for created virtual items in 2006 - okay, fair enough - but if you sold that land and bought new, then whatever terms were in effect when that transaction occurred are what apply)... or something.
I have no opinion for or against either side in this case. So I guess I'll just lean back, kick-up my feet and order a super-duper-size bucket of popcorn.
I trademark my SL name. But I'm not stupid enough to think that extends INTO the grid. I simply use it as a business tool on the outside of the grid for business inside the grid.
This is a good story though. It's always laughable to read about laughable people who proclaim laughable things while attempting laughable activities in a laughable way.
I know, this comment is laughable. I'll go be quiet in a corner now. in a laughable sort of way.
I am told to get to the bridge of your ship is in the right-hand minimap menu icons - I'm not figuring it out. :)
I am a tactical officer right now and figure to reach end-game by end of this month. I have been thinking of starting a second character then and replay from the beginning as a blue shirt.
The benefit then is that I'll know how everything works, what I want and what to do with all those anomalous readings I keep getting! LOL
Okay: how do I get to the bridge of the U.S.S. Firefly?
Have no idea about the whole "fan service" aspect.
I prefer the story-based missions myself (though I need to ensure a good 90 to 120 minutes of time to complete one). Even if there is no end-game stuff just yet, I'm okay with that as I have a "career" account (I sepak only for myself) - right now I am a Tactical officer and I figure when I reach end-game I'll start over as a Science specialty and so on.
In the time it takes to reboot myself over three genres, I'm hopeful more meaningful game play will exist by then. For the record who the hell cares how the pylons fit a ship? There isn't even camming abilities to look closely at other people or their ships.
And since you've started, I'll continue for kicks:
Name: Skytzyk Rank: Captain Race: Human Ship: U.S.S. Firefly
My goal is to make Admiral, find the tiniest ship I can find and beef it up with the biggest, baddest kick-@$$ weapons and call it the U.S.S. Gnat.
