I really don't understand why Joystiq's writers seem to have a vendetta against Rocksmith. Even from Joystiq's headline on the Rocksmith review, "Drop D-minus," they set a negative tone about the entire experience (yet gave the game a mildly passable score.)
I make my living as a music teacher, and I think that Rocksmith is incredible. Yes, the menu interface is cludgy and it had a handful of bugs before the patch, but nothing can override the fact that it WORKS. It ACTUALLY tracks what you're playing on the guitar EVERY SINGLE TIME and has some pretty darn good amp modeling to go along with it! I've got a bachelor's in music education and Rocksmith has made me a significantly better musician.
The game does exactly what it sets out to do, and it never claims to do anything else. It allows you to play a varied repertoire of rock on a real guitar and has a pretty easy to follow system of showing you how to play it.
No, it does not teach you musical notation, but that's a completely different task that frankly is significantly less fun than actually playing the guitar. No, it doesn't substitute for a real human being sitting with you for hours and showing you exactly what about your technique needs improving, but it sure does let you practice.
Maybe it's my profession that gets me so upset about it, but I feel like Rocksmith should be getting a lot more attention than it's getting now, and it bothers me to see educated gamers like the writers at Joystiq bash this game so fervently when it really does provide an awesome musical experience that nothing else has replicated.
AC2 was the first MMO that I played for any decent length of time and I loved it! It had it's fair share of flaws, and the leveling curve was anything but smooth, but I miss the skill system and the vault system dearly!
Does anyone know if there are any private servers or emulators running the game at all? I'm not sure of the legality of it seeing as how the game has been dead for some time, but if it was possible I would LOOOOVE to play AC2 again!!
