Is all the reduced mana regen in combat, out of combat, or both? I understand nerfing how much mana you have in combat to make the game more fun and challenging. But drinking between every pull is not fun. My hope was that Cata would bring about two mana regen rates: one that applies only in combat and one for out of combat. Is that happening? Are there long downtimes between fights, soloing or in groups?
The new heirlooms are in a recent beta release. They are head and cloak, work from level 1 to 85, and are a 10% and 5% bonus. The guild leveling system also offers a potential 10% XP bonus. Add in the fishing quest reward ring (5%) to the existing 1-80 chest and shoulder heirlooms and you could in theory have a 50% bonus (chest, shoulder, head, cloak, ring and guild) from 1-80 and 25% (head, cloak, guild) from 80-85.
"You start combat the same as today - charge in, shockwave, thunderclap. Priest pulls you back with Leap of Faith, you boing right back onto the boss with Heroic Leap." - post says that Charge and Heroic Leap will share a cooldown. So, unfortunately, this won't be possible.
Having to think about which heals to use when so that I can avoid running OOM is fun. Drinking between fights to restore mana is not fun. I'd like to see WoW follow what I've seen in another MMO (I think it was Conan), where you had one health/mana regen rate in combat, and a different one out of combat. That meant I might finish a fight being dangerously close to being out of mana, but as soon as combat ended, my mana bar would shoot up pretty quickly.
I'm encouraged that Blizzard is doing things like taking weapon skills out of the game. While I like foods and drinks that provide buffs, I hope that Blizz decides to remove the 'sit around for 20 seconds after combat only to refill the mana bar' element of the game.
What would the point be of scheduling BlizzCon *after* Cataclysm launches? They will most likely announce that beta is now open at the Con, setting the official launch date for November or December. It's going to be a long year.
