The Daily Grind: How long have you been playing MMOs?

Mar 6th 2011 10:19AM (Massively)
For the record, a MUD is not a MMORPG. Nor are MOOs. Though I started playing those way WAY back in the 80s I will not count them. They are not the same critter. Also, games like Diablo is about as much a MMO as Doom multi hack was. It is a cooperative action RPG and nothing more.

I believe my first MMORPG was a little known game called WarBirds which was launched in 1995. Though it has strong flight sim leanings it technically fits into the category of MMO though it almost needs a shoehorn to do so.

If I can fly I might be interested. Otherwise it seems like an updated version of Day of Defeat with MMO slapped on the end of the title.

Didn't Cryptic make a similar claim at some point just before or just after the STO launch? I'm just saying don't count them before they hatch.

Keep in mind I'm playing RIFT and rather enjoy it.

Cryptic releases new Star Trek Online Featured Episode

The episode was rather contrived. The use of the shuttle was what I would call over design or design rot. It could have been better but it was not. Maybe the next in the series will be better.

@Interitus

I love it when people assume they have some kind of right to play a MMORPG in an open beta phase. Buck up little camper. Some developers actually run betas as betas. That means not everyone gets to be involved in it. Sorry.

What else would you expect from a pure PvP title?

@Rhazes

You don't "beat" an MMORPG. IF you are doing that you are not really enguaging all it has to offer.

you can toss my two cents in a fountan and make a wish if you like :D

I cant say I agree that it is going to add any Trekness to STO. I believe it is actually going to detract from the potentual of Trekness. One of the things that has made Trek what it is, is IP control. If anything greater IP control of STO assets by CBS would insert that missing element.

Don't get me wrong. I really like STO but I will not touch Foundry missions.

Gamers documentary now available for streaming

This "documentary" is a PoS. It is a demeaning and inaccurate portrayal of a majority of MMORPG players. This guy is a troll. It is that simple. He has zero credibility to begin with and ends up in the negative by the end. We couldn't even watch more than 1/2.

@ElfLove

No, you meant raider mentality. Gear score is a result of crappy WoW raider mentality. And you are correct, RIFT thrives on methods of inclusion rather than exclusion found in many other games. It is an old concept/schema/mechanic that needs to die. RIFT just might go a long way to killing it.

Link that information from an official source or it didn't happen.

To the best of anyone's knowledge there is no difference between a current beta build and the launch build. They are tuning the game which means everything you experience is the way it would be if the game was launched tomorrow. The rift frequency is up to date. There is not XP boost.

I HATE misinformation!
