Lineage II boasts increased revenue and playerbase following free-to-play transition

The revenue comes from Brazilians and other foreigners. Seems to be unplayable for English speakers if you choose to go on the new servers.

Saw someone streaming their game. Definitely not going to bother. *Another* blunder of an Square game.

All you need is a really cute kitten as your main picture when you submit to Reddit, otherwise blindly showing off your Digg page is a PR disaster right now if you're in the social media world, especially if you hit front page ...

I am the cheese, I am the best character in the show.

Looking back at six years of Lineage II

Jun 27th 2010 10:35PM (Massively)
I played this game through thick and thin, enjoyed it for what it was for around 1 year. Most people played it for the in game politics, as guilds rose to power and soon there after or never crumbled. Top guilds were feared, inner guild drama stirred every day, name calling, relentless ganking all plaqued the higher tier of the game for those who enjoyed the PVP. Not to mention the castle seiging, in both in purpose and what it meant politically for the server. The ever player dynamics kept things entertaining, despite the shady means of guilds doing it.

All the while, the PVE'ing me (as I had rolled a Warlock that had no contribution to the group before they were buffed) settled into a friendly PVE guild. Even though we grouped up and slayed and mindlessly grinded the same room for a while and moved to other hunting grounds when appropriate, I enjoyed pressing my mindless buttons and talking on vent all night long. I'm sure some of you could relate. It was boring yet relaxing at the same time.

Overall though, this games major downfall is/was the farmers, from which the player based both loathed yet used to get ahead in the political and character power scene.

Might be rambly, but I typed this while waiting for the WoW raid to form =)

Massively is becoming more... well, massive

Jan 15th 2010 4:38PM (Massively)
Meh, I was hoping for more video oriented work, usually gets me interested in a topic than reading a wall of text about a game I really could care less about ...

Like whoever did that Allods Online video, very good stuff or something like the STO videos posted yesterday.

The Daily Grind: Do you vote with your wallet?

Dec 29th 2009 8:49AM (Massively)
Aion is a perfect example of voting with your wallet. I had high hopes for the game (As I did play 2 years of Lineage 2 which is very similar) but the game just fell on so many levels, it was a 1 step forward 2 steps back ... and soon followed 10 of my other friends within the first month as we gladly cancelled. I wasn't going to take shoddy game mechanics from the early 90s (I'm looking at you animation locking .. are ... you ... serious?) from terrible terrible Korean programmers. Then look at the following month when they got on their assess and started to "fix" the problems.

While I see it stopping brute force attempts, I don't see how it does anything for keyloggers.

The Daily Grind: Did you take advantage of Black Friday sales?

Hoping for an Oblivion discount, though Newegg does sell one for $14 + some DLC.
