Funcom boasts 400,000 players in Age of Conan so far

May 26th 2008 2:50PM (Massively)
Conan kicks ass. I'm having a great time. However, Funcom needs to bust ass to fix bugs like the Trader, and get more high level content in quick, or they will not get sub renewals.

Still, I love the game. I see myself playing for at least 6 months. Beautiful game, combat is the best in the genre, and is the music and ambient sound.

AoC beta: a tale of two clients

May 4th 2008 2:21AM (Massively)
I'm in closed beta. The game runs very well for me. 90% of the problems the open beta testers are reporting I've not experienced in the last 2 months. I get a CTD every now and then, but for the most part frame rates are good, loading times between zones are 5-15 seonds on average (60 seconds if I'm entering zone for first time).

AoC is just a beautiful game. Unfortunately you need a pretty cutting edge PC to run it with all the bells and whistles. I am running AoC on a C2D e6600, 3 GB RAM, 8800GT, Vista Ultimate. But I also run it on an AMD 3500+, 2 GB ram, 6800GT just fine, but on low settings. Personally, I love the game and think it adds enough new elements to the MMORPG genre that it will succeed. I love the active (rather than passive) combat. The classes are all interesting and fun. Spell effects are incredible. Environmental graphics are unmatched in the genre. Climbing is a great addition (although DDO does this). NPC for the most part have great voice acting and their own personalities. It really makes for a great game. I'm not sure why so many people are having major issues with the client, but AoC is entirely playable for me (not to say that there are not bugs and more optimization that needs to be addressed).

Buyer here, hands down.

I can't wait for AoC. I understand things are really coming together in Beta. Funcom's got two months to tie up the loose ends. Sounds more and more like they will be ready for launch.

IGN and Gamespy preview WAR's Elven starting areas

I may be in the minority, but I'm just not impressed with the art direction in this game. Maybe it's not so much the art, but the 'let's make our MMO run on the lowest common denominator' PC fugly graphics as a whole. I love Mythic and wish them well. I'd rather of had them push the envelope visually as AoC is...

The Daily Grind: What game pulled you in to MMOs?

Feb 17th 2008 12:52PM (Massively)
Dark Age of Camelot. I'm not sure any MMO experience will ever top that. No game since has given me the chills like venturing into Darksness Falls, waiting for the Mids and Hibs to show up at any moment. Personally, I wish Mythic were working on DAoC II more than WAR. I like the Celtic/Norse themes much more.

Collision detection in WAR's PvP

Feb 6th 2008 11:54PM (Massively)
I'm all for collision detection. Makes combat much more realistic. WoW should have CD. Rogues should not be able to 'pass through' someone to stab them in the back. From what I've heard, Mythic is really close to nailing CD in their design.

Rumor: Age of Conan in bad shape

Hey Massively why give this jack ass any recognition and link to his post? I expect more from my fave daily MMO news source. Disappointed.
