It is hard to enjoy the journey when the game design focuses so much on the destinations.

@Arkanaloth WoW is still what the majority of people play, and our WoW events are almost always packed. I'm sure next year will end up featuring some The Old Republic, but there are tons of games that don't get their own panels because when we do have them, no one shows up.

@Utakata Being a fan convention (run by fans, for fans) and not a press event, it's difficult for us to talk about games that haven't been released yet. We will happily have panels on GW2 once it is out.

Only insofar as it pertains to employment. Until I learn that a potential boss also likes games, I don't trot out that I do because of the possible stigma of "wasting time" with gaming and it being a distraction.

And I'm not immune either. When people tell me they play golf, I look down on them the same way other people look down on video games. Golf is such a waste of time.

Ultimately, they are adopting Blizzard's design model. They are building games and then scrapping them if they aren't release worthy as opposed to releasing everything they build.

Blizzard maintains the illusion of only building great games because they refuse to release the games that aren't great. They'd rather lose money than damage their reputation (at least before Activision took over, now that may change - not in the short term, but post-Cataclysm/SC2/D3).

@JoeHelfrich : Define "alt"? How do you pick a main character? Most time played? Highest level? What if I have a level 80 priest I play in my guild for raids, but spend most of my time playing a hunter by myself who is only level 50 because I spend lots of time exploring and crafting and messing around?

$1 million to the first company to make an ad that is just repeating lines from Duke Nukem over and over.
