Dr. Greg Zeschuk talks about the launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic

@Terce I would guess that a very large amount of people are still playing. You have no clue what you are talking about. "Make larger servers" like it's that simple.

Oh hey guys, you just make larger servers, yeah, that that server, make it larger, like poof.. see.. fixes it. trolololol

@Quarlo Or some see it as they raised the player cap on the servers to remove the queues that were in place to ensure that people spread out across servers, not just clustered into a few heavy pop servers.

Explore The Old Republic's galaxy (far, far away) in 3-D

@Ren54 Well no. Think of each of the worlds more like Northrend, Azeroth or the Outlands. There is very little loading screen type deals on each world. Some group or personal instances for moving the quest/story line forward appropriately, but it's 90% big open seamless areas like wow is.

The Daily Grind: Did BioWare make the right call?

@Quarlo see you at launch.

Having been a part of some of the past mistakes in launches (looking at you aion and aoc), I can totally see their reasons for making sure they can get an idea of how many people to expect, and to be able to control the start of the game.

makes sense on all fronts.

The Daily Grind: What Star Wars Galaxies features will you miss the most?

Jun 26th 2011 7:13PM (Massively)
The resources and the crafting. No other game has even come close to such a system. In EVERY MMO, what I craft and what you craft are exactly the same, there is no real way to rise above, to be a true artisan.

That is what I will miss.

What is interesting is I reinstalled this over the weekend, prior to your article and found the game to be absoloutly woeful. Horrible, terrible, completely outclassed by F2P games created by small studios.

I dont think it's improved at all since NGE. YesI was a pre NGE player and yes I think that the sandbox element of the game was the most amazing aspect of it. Running a "quest hub" out of Mos eisley for newbies was fun. I;d set them quests to go get me things, useless things, vendor trash... and then pay them for it. I'd putout work orders for resources and people would go and fill them.

My favorite memories though are of running Dr Eyedun Geddits VIP buffing service in the corusant starport. While other Dr's were charging 15K for 2400-2500 buffs, and had a large line, I'd announce charging 30-50K for 2500 buffs with no wait time.

and people paid it. Why wait 20 mins to get buffed? Pay me 30k and I will buff you now, no wait, no hassle, be on your way to your solo group missions (lol).

ahh the uproar, the nasty tells, the stink eye from the other Dr's.. those were the days.

Hands down the best crafting and resource system EVER in a MMO. when your resource system spawns a virtual stock market, you know you've done something right.

I tried to play it over the weekend but you are right, the ability to play what I enjoyed is gone.

LEGO Universe going freemium this August

Jun 21st 2011 12:11PM (Massively)
Perfect, now I can sign my kids up. I wont let me kids play non freemium games, they like to swap between games and I do not want to have to maintain 2 memberships to 6 games.

Now all they need to do is implement Family accounts. Parent account and up to say 4 or 5 kids accounts, all for one subscription amount that is NOT 5x normal amount. I like to control what/when they play, and occasionally play with them, but don't want to have to maintain a full subscription to do that.

The Daily Grind: Does PS3 exclusivity affect your enthusiasm for DUST 514?

Jun 15th 2011 8:38AM (Massively)
Yes. Don't own a PS3, don't intend to ever buy one. Leaves me out of the fun. I'd play the game if it was on PC though (and I dont play EVE)
