Agree with Snailking and dukrous. Personally I've been addicted to both reading (fantasy novels mostly) and computer games and it was a waste of about 8 years of my life. When I actually admitted I had a problem I could do something about it and now I can enjoy both hobbies in moderation. I'd hazard a guess that anyone who doesn't acknowledge the possibility of a psychological addiction relating to a hobby of theirs is probably in denial.

As far as how it should be treated goes I think it's very much up to the individual. I'm not a fan of interfering with a person's free will even if they are being an idiot.
