The Daily Grind: Are we witnessing the bursting of a gaming bubble?

Nov 5th 2011 10:36AM (Massively)
The gaming bubble? I think your view is a bit narrow, what about the world-wide economic bubble and associated crash? I don't think there is anything special about gaming, it is just suffering the downturn like lots of other industries.

Global Chat: Broke and richer for it edition

Nothing to do with MMOs is expensive for me, the cost of the game, subscription, cash shops... it's all pretty small fry compared to the cost of everything else in life.

I think it's good value for the amount of entertainment I get from them.

The Daily Grind: What's the most you'd pay for a collector's edition?

Jul 22nd 2011 8:43AM (Massively)
I *thought* the most I would ever pay for a collectors edition was about £60, but since I just shelled out £130 to Game/EA yesterday it just goes to show what I sucker I really am lol

Asda 2 announced by GamesCampus

In the UK, Asda is a very big supermarket chain, owned by Wall-Mart. I wonder if this will put off UK players?

The Daily Grind: Has Warhammer earned your money for another month?

I am really enjoying WAR so I will subscribe until the end of the year at least. I still have an active WOW subscription as well and I won't be able to resist WOTLK so I will buy that too.

As to which I will spend the most time with, only time will tell.

Is the honeymoon over for Warhammer Online?

What you are talking about is a problem that will plague MMOs for a long while to come.

Single player RPGs don't have this problem, they can immerse you in a rich, dynamic world where you are the hero in an exciting and innovative adventure. That is because YOU are the only human player in the game.

MMOs on the other hand can't present a rich, dynamic, personal experience to 2000 people at the same time. There isn't just one hero in your world, there are 2000 and they all see the same world, so if something changes for one person it changes for everyone. Since everybody plays at a different pace the whole concept of personal and dynamic goes out the window.

I'm sure someone will come up with a solution to this conundrum, but for now that it why MMOs are, relatively, so bland.

MMOGology: I lost a friend to WAR

Oct 6th 2008 5:24PM (Massively)
My wife has lost me to WAR for now, she is still running Kara in WOW, we used to play together a lot so it kinda makes me sad... and torn.

I have 5 lvl 70s and a lot of history with WOW so I will play WAR for now and try WOTLK when it comes out and make a judgement call at the time.

It's really tough because I'm really, really enjoying WAR.

The Daily Grind: Warhammer or Woehammer?

Sep 15th 2008 9:42AM (Massively)
Ugkul, are you kidding?

WOW IP is only so big because of WOW. Prior to WOW the Warcraft IP was tiny, a series of niche strategy games? Their biggest IP was almost certainly Diablo, but even that was seriously niche compared to something like LOTR or Star Wars.

Give it up already, before WOW Blizzard's IP was >.

Star Wars the only IP that can challenge World of Warcraft?

Feb 11th 2008 11:31AM (Massively)
I don't think IP is that relevant to the long term success of an MMO.

WOW is the best example of an IP that wasn't very well known that has since become a huge success.

SWG is the best example of the opposite.

If Bioware make a fabulous MMO then it should succeed, if not then it probably won't. KOTOR or otherwise. Period.

One thing that I have noticed as a healer in the thick of battle is that it is very difficult to focus on one party member. As a result I just run around the battlefield getting near people and hitting radial repair/heal, much more reliable than direct or conical.

This isn't *always* the case but big boss fights are the exception rather than the rule. Messy battlefield scenarios are far more likely.
