End of life for Google's Lively

Nov 20th 2008 10:02AM (Massively)
Yeah, and one of the pathetic things about Google is how they barely ever market efforts like this. I think I heard about it ONCE, and there's been almost zero buzz since.

Analyst: WAR subscriptions will eventually settle around 250,000

"Blowing a gasket" is writing four paragraphs about something which you obviously didn't understand. I suggest actually reading and comprehending something first before replying with a rant.

Please try again, and have a nice day. I'm off to have some fun in WAR RvR.

Analyst: WAR subscriptions will eventually settle around 250,000

I remember a day when analysts weren't so in control of the popularity of games and/or hardware in this industry.

Nowadays they can totally turn the sales of anything into crap with the merest suggestion of negativity in a prediction.

"Numbers like the ones above" do not indicate how awesome the game really is, and it is extremely good.

The fallacies of skill training plans in EVE Online

Sep 24th 2008 8:30AM (Massively)
Lower levels of learning skills take minutes and hours to complete, not days, and shave time off of other skills you intend to train. It's not like players are gimping themselves later by doing so, as it's pointed out for the long term it's advantageous to train them up as needed.

For TRIAL users, I can't see a point to them doing the Learning skills. IMHO, they should be training up whatever skills they want to be able to give them an indication of what the game is like, and if that means skipping Learning in favor of Gunnery or ship skills then so be it.

Keeping yourself alive in EVE with safespots

possum: I think we see a lot more EVE coverage these days because it's one of the few MMOs that's actually doing anything interesting. It's not a WOW-like design, there's true consequences for your actions, etc. etc.

Alternately, it could just be that the EVE-related authors for Massively just write more.

Is WoW hitting a plateau?

Sep 12th 2008 7:26AM (Massively)
The market isn't really "saturated" anymore in the conventional sense. It's more of a design saturation than a product volume one.

WoW = successful

Therefore to duplicate that success a game must become more like WoW to appeal to the same audience.

Or at least that's the logic being applied. It's flawed in many ways, yet companies are out there applying it to their game designs. The result is a dead experience that never reaches a critical mass of user interest.

EVE alliance circumvents factional warfare restrictions

Aug 15th 2008 9:24AM (Massively)
I don't see that anyone's "circumventing" anything. They're engaging on a corp-to-corp basis, which is exactly what the existing war declaration mechanics have allowed since day 1. It's not griefing any more than any other war declaration is griefing.

CCP has stated repeatedly in the past that Faction Warfare is "real PVP", well here it is.

EVE Evolved: Is EVE Online going soft?

Aug 11th 2008 9:20AM (Massively)
As an interceptor pilot, yes of course I do. :) In that case, missiles were essentially instant hit for 100% of their possible damage no matter what (as long as you were within range). Sure the changes they implemented required missile-based chars to train additional skills, but in the end they could spend the time to train and get better than they were before. At the same time allowing other types of players to have a chance at reducing their damage similar to how turret-based damage could be mitigated by a combination of range and speed.

Of all the nano ships out there the Vagabond is the one which is being flown according to its role. It's meant to be a fast moving hard hitting ship. It's NOT meant to be be an invulnerable solo pwnmobile, which it currently can be. They'll still have their ability to move fast and hit hard, only now they'll be balanced.

EVE Evolved: Is EVE Online going soft?

Nano pilots are the minority overall, so in a sense most players are getting a boost and not a nerf. :D

But seriously, don't use the EVE forums as a guideline for that kind of broad statement like "EVE is going soft". You have to keep in mind that a LOT of who you see posting are alts of other characters, intending to artificially bloat an issue which they have been taking advantage of for quite some time now.

Removing the ability for players to become practically invulnerable in combat is not an indication of a softening of the game.. in fact it's quite the contrary.
