Second Life Machinimists crusade to fix joystick flycam

I can't get the 3Dconnexion to work on my mac. With SL. It works fine with Google Earth, so can't be the device. I enable flycam in the client menu, 3D joystick or not, none of the options enables any impact of using the 3Dc. any ideas anyone?
