I like the guns, guns, and things you shoot at with guns.

Darkfall producer talks about beta, testing and setting release dates

Apr 13th 2008 6:14PM (Massively)
IMO, Darkfall will either be vaporware of epic proportions, or a truly innovative MMO that will blow people's minds. I honestly don't know which.

Crysis engine is correct.

Aion gameplay video shows some personality

Apr 6th 2008 2:37PM (Massively)
I'm calling it. War and AOC are getting all the attention, but Aion will be a sleeper hit.

The vast majority of people who actually research the development of this game are pleasantly surprised. Too bad so many are just looking at a few screenshots and calling it "another asian grind fest".

The Daily Grind: How do you feel about microtransactions?

Feb 22nd 2008 9:22AM (Massively)
I think micro transactions are ok for novelty or "flavor" items like pets, armor dyes, mount accessories, or trinkets with silly abilities. But items (gear) that increases your stats (character performance) should probably be earned in-game.

Especially in a game with PvP.

Massively's Massive Giveaways: Tabula Rasa winners!

Feb 21st 2008 10:15AM (Massively)
thanks! Too bad I never knew I had won anything until i saw this post! hehe. (notification never even made it to spam =(

/sigh. That seems about right though. First time I win anything, Ever, and i'm probably hear about it too late to claim the prize.

Unless there is another "Rex" here. But what are the odds of that?

I blame the Belgians for this. No one can have waffles that tasty and not be up to something.

GDC08: Blizzard's approach to MMOs

interesting stuff. I'm glad to see blizzard to sharing of the principles that have made them successful.

The Daily Grind: Do item databases make raiding more fun?

Feb 10th 2008 12:36PM (Massively)
I guess those sites play a valuable role. I just can't help but imagine how these virtual worlds would seem bigger and more mysterious if we didn't have all these databases and spreadsheets.

Lewis and Clark's journey would have been pretty lame if they already knew everything that they would find. Like a manual explaining not only where to go, but the exact steps they need to take after they get there.

I understand that a lot of people like the min/max game-play. But the explorer in me wishes that some answers were a little further than your fingertips.

Bioware holding focus groups for new MMO, aimed at casuals?

Jan 26th 2008 9:49AM (Massively)
oy... Focus groups are notorious for giving misguided direction and communicating simplistic desires. The NGE was the result of focus group testing.

It can be done correctly, but 99.9% of the focus groups that occur just set themselves up for bad information.
