The Summoner's Guidebook: Dominion isn't ready for ranked

Mar 16th 2012 9:36AM (Massively)
@Sorithal Poppy is one of the worst lane pushers, and even though she can dive and molest squishies, she's hard countered by tanky teams who just bait her ultimate then CC/kill her. You can put her top lane, but be prepared to farm under your tower all day. She doesn't really fit anywhere else...

She's a complete powerhouse in Dominion, but then again, so is every champion that normally shines late game because of the massive farm boost you get in that game mode.

@Snichy You can cash advance pretty much any credit card. Not that I recommend it because the interest is obcene.

Not that I condone this at all...

But way to be dumbasses and pick a fight with Anonymous when you clearly lack adequate security.

Not So Massively: Exploring the lands of MOBA

Nice to see a MOBA column on Massively. Honestly haven't been around here much lately due to leaving the MMORPG scene completely about a year ago. Cheers!

The Daily Grind: Which MMO has made the best progress since its poor launch?

I'd agree: EVE Online.

It's one of the few MMOs that has grown since launch (2003) and grown it has. Its first year had a mere 50k players. It has grown by about 50k players every year since. Not bad for an extremely niche title.

Waging WAR: The blame game

As a past writer for Massively, let me tell you it's definitely tough to walk that fine line between sharing your true feelings and writing a complete fluff piece. However, I always felt the Massively editors were great about letting me share my feelings and opinions as long as I did it respectfully.

As others have commented above, it's a bit of a "damned if you do, damned if you don't situation," for contributing editors. You don't want to burn bridges with developers but you don't want to gloss things over either because your commentors will see through it and rip you a new one. And when the biggest news in the MMO space usually has a negative tinge to it, that's where things can get challenging. We all love drama and most people pay more attention to the negative than the positive.

Right now, it seems to me that Massively is trying to wear a few hats atm: news maker, news aggregator, and opinion site. I think it does a very good job at juggling these roles, but I wonder what kind of power house they could become if they focused 100% on the news maker or opinion elements.

You can define your audience but your audience can also define you. If you stay true to yourself and get the strong backing of an audience then look out because you'll be able to dictate the terms, not the developers. Trust me, they want your buzz.

The Daily Grind: Bow to the RNG

Actually, that was pretty bad too! :P On the plus side you might sometimes get a scroll you didn't need and could sell/trade it to get the one you did.

The Daily Grind: Bow to the RNG

Warhammer Online's level 40+ dungeons. I recall running one of the dungeons 12 times and the item I needed never dropped. Hilariously, items would drop for classes not present in our group, and at one point, classes that hadn't even been introduced to the game yet (Choppa gear before the Choppa had been released).

Add to that the 3-day lockout timers and it was an exercise in frustration and futility.
