There's a big difference between "An Asian MMO" and "A Japanese MMO" just in case you weren't aware. FFXI and something like Lineage 2 or Aion are two very different games because well, South Korean and the Japanese are very different cultures.

But yes, I'm looking forward to playing FFXIV. :)

The Daily Grind: GDC10 predictions?

I think the fact that it's possible to view APB as either of those two things is actually a big strength. Many of my ex-MMO player friends become interested with I tell/show them the game, but then grow exponentially more interested when I mention there's no subscription -- just a one-time box purchase.

Not sure where you're getting those extra five years of dev time from.

The BioWare Austin studio was officially announced in March 2006. That puts SWTOR (assuming an early 2011 release) at the same development time as WoW, if not slightly longer. Also, considering BioWare brought on something like 12 writers before any other developers, I'd say there's a strong chance the game will have a whole lot of story.

It remains to be seen how good it all turns out, of course.

I'm not sure where the micro stuff is coming from because Realtime Worlds has -- so far and to my knowledge -- only really said they'll be charging for the game itself.
